I can't even imagine casting the SVH movie now because I still picture the characters as older than me. I started reading these books in first grade because my older sisters had them (which now seems so crazy to me, reading all the fake date rape and such at 7 years old!)
Agreed, I do not want to see the High School Musical kids trying to inhabit the SV universe.
Ever since I heard of the SVH movie possibility, I've been buying up SVHs on ebay and I just read Alone in the Crowd for the first time. THAT has got to be the funniest jumpsuit mention of the series. This shy girl who wears sweatshirts and big glasses and never wants people to notice her is going to change her image by wearing a purple jumpsuit? Seems like a bold move, I think I'd have gone with a new skirt or something.
I am trying to remember this one book and it's totally escaping. I could swear there was a plot where they had some sort of field day games and somebody was sabotaging the SVH kids. Did I make this up?

I guess Lynne Henry went with the purple jumpsuit because her stylish, widowed mother had bought it for her a while back and it was already in her closet. Also, in for a penny, in for a pound... Does she wear the brightly colored espadrilles with the jumpsuit, or is that a different look?
Wasn't there a field day at Secca Lake in Alone In The Crowd, or was that just the Rock-a-thon?

laurenj, it's #59 called In Love Again, where Todd comes back from Vermont and is all snobby and rich and goes to the rich school across town. A girl in that new school, Courtney Kane, decides she's hot for Todd's bod and sabotages the quiz bowl by pulling the curtain to signal her team the right answers. She also sabotages Liz's climbing rope and when Todd sees her fall he runs to her and all is perfect.
In the B plot, Jess decides she needs to go to the rich school as well.
And no, I didn't have to look any of that up.

There was a Rock a Thon and a big baseball game at Secca Lake in Alone in the Crowd.

That was also the story arc where Jessica meets yet another Hotttt Rich Guy, but because he announces that he's planning to work in charity, she freaks out and dumps him, because EYEEEEEW!

Hey, I finally had an 80's jumpsuit sighting! I'm watching Facts of Life, season 6 (which would put it at '84-'85) and Jo wears TWO jumpsuits. One hideous giant red one with white high top sneakers which makes her look like a convict and then an equally hideous white one later. I can't imagine that jumpsuits in Sweet Valley were any more flattering. Jess and Lila should really have known better.

Oh wow. Reading this gave me a flashback to an acid-washed lightweight denim or chambray sleeveless jumpsuit I owned somewhere between maybe third and fifth grade ('85-'88). Any later and I would have been clowned mercilessly. I had completely blocked that out. Damn you, Sweet Valley thread!

Someone had mentioned Anna Lynne McCord as Lila earlier, but I think she might be a perfect Jessica and Elizabeth.

Leighton Meester might be a good Lila.

Are we playing casting director? For Jessica and Elizabeth, there's Ashley Benson, late of Eastwick. She's about the only teen-ish blond I can think of who I've seen play good ( Eastwick, Days) and bitchy ( Supernatural). Of course, I'm watching a lot less teen-ish shows than I used to.
