Okay, I will say one positive thing. The beauty dares were pretty funny, like walking around in a bad temporary perm or shitty tattoo just to see others reactions.

Yeah, but Glamour does that stuff too. They always make someone walk around with her skirt tucked into her underpants or something.
I hated this magazine. I liked it initially but it just had way too much sneering hipster attitude. Every article was "I'm too cool for mainstream" and it got tiring.
Plus, as mentioned I hated the Pam Anderson column and that was when I also decided not to renew.

Jane had it's moments, but it was definitely no Sassy, sadly. And I read the Jane boards religiously, but never ever posted because so many of the girls were such mean bitches, even if someone asked a perfectly innocent question.

Ah! I'm so glad you said that. I stupidly posted on there once and I was ATTACKED by all those bitches over something stupid. A girl was like "My friends are getting married this weekend and I don't know what to get them" and I just said something like "Do they have a registry?" thinking that maybe the did and everything was bought from it so that's why she was looking or if they were a couple who'd been living together for like 10 years and therefore they already HAVE a toaster in which case you can get more creative.
Well, the bitches came out of the woodwork and just attacked me by saying that registries are grabby gift grubbing tools for the selfish and materialistic and I probably had like 8 registries because I'm obviously a horrible person. I attempted to explain myself but they just kept at me so I left and never posted again.

You just reminded me, I did post once! Before I was moving to LA, I asked them what areas of town would be good places for a young girl who is into indie music and whatnot to live, and they RAILED on me, saying how much hipsters sucked. Like three pages of that shit.

Jane gave me my one claim to fame: when Anna Kournikova was on the June/July 2005 cover I sent an email stating that if they wanted a covergirl who was famous for doing nothing, they should have chosen Zsa Zsa Gabor. I was shocked when it turned up in the September issue.

Hey! I remember that comment and that was the only issue I bought! It's strange that I would remember something like that and not remember how to do a formula I just learned the day before. Thanks for the chuckle!

I picked up a few issues here and there but I have to agree that it wasn't all that.
Yeah, I think at some point I noticed that it was written for the Mischa Barton- style hipster. We're so alternative- in our tall thin pretty caucasian urban-dwelling model way. Girl power!
And Jane herself, was just I dont know... still trying too hard to be the cool older sister when twentysomething women aren't looking to a cool older sister anymore? Becoming more like the slightly desperate cougar aunt?
