I just finished. And this is the Spoilers thread...
Spoilers thread, remember, so squint now...
Why the fuck did Fred have to die? BOOOOOO!!! AND Lupin? AND Tonks? AND Snape? BOOOOOO!!!!!!! And Colin Creevey (stupid little Potter-worshiper)? And Hedwig?
I really enjoyed it. I thought it was much more action-packed than any of the earlier novels. It went from intense scene to intense scene, and I couldn't have put it down, even if I'd planned to get some sleep.
I did miss the Hogwarts teachers, although McGonnagal was fabulous as always: McGonnagal (paraphrased): If He Who Must Not Be Named is coming, we must put protection charms on the school. Potter: Can that be done? McGonnagal, dryly: Yes, the teachers are quite good at magic.
She didn't shy away from difficult deaths in this one.
I totally appreciated how she ended Snape. I am so pleased that he wasn't on Voldemort's side, even if it was the fact that he was in love with Lily Potter that prompted it. It broke my heart that the last thing Snape said to Potter was, "Look at me," so that he could think of Lily (reflected in Harry's eyes that were just like hers) as he died.

Good lord, and I thought I was a speed reader. (Oh well, I'll keep the rep with my other friends, at least.)
It was the ending I was hoping for for Snape (I always thought he was a double agent.) And Molly attacking Bellatrix was FABULOUS!

Finished about 3 hours ago been chatting to friends about it. I liked it, it answered most of my questions and I was right about him being a Horoux. Score one for me. I loved the inscription on Dobby's grave, Kreacher coming to aid of them. Just really solid and Aberforth! Who maybe my new fave character, unfortunate goat stuff aside. Loved the bits with Snape, Molly taking on Bellatrix and Neville with the snake. And finally some stuff on Lily even though it was all about love and choices. I know it's a kids book but man it annoys me at times. The books was all good.
I wished she had either dropped the whole 19 years later thing or done a fuller one-like what happened to George did he continue without his brother? What happened with Percy and Arthur-did they go back to the Ministry? What about Luna? Did McGonagall (the badass) become Head? Anymore contact with the Dursleys? Have wizard-other magical creatures relations imporve? More on Draco and his family would have been good.

So does Harry die?
I'll admit I've never read any of the books or seen the movies but am slightly curious, given that it's impossible to escape all the insane Potter hoopla.
Thanks december. Voldie=Voldemort?
I suppose Ron & Hermione live too?
Thanks again, december.

Well, I finished it. Not bad, although certain parts were a bit fan-ficcy for my taste (some of Lupin's lines, the names of the children in the epilogue and so on). It'll probably take me another rereading to decide whether I really liked it or not. Definite mixed feelings at the end, though.

The world JKR created was pretty traditional with wizarding and family names though - I liked the ending not so much for what it had in it but the fact that it gave you some happy resolution after a long journey throughout the book and the series overall.
I feel good about the first reading - interesting, some harsh moments, some fantastic visuals. I was really absorbed and I don't think I "pfft"ed anything, although I thought the twin-maiming was a bit much (there are more Weasleys than just F&G to be attacked!).
Ron leaving and returning was pretty shocking. I liked the dramatic stuff like the PJP Harrys and the wedding being interrupted after the ministry was taken over. Things got a bit convoluted and heavy following Snape's death, but I was pretty happy at the way things were resolved. Finding out all that Snape and Dumbledore had done was very interesting. Loved the Hogwarts stuff with Percy coming back, all the DA-ers, the teachers, etc. Oh, and the radio scene was brilliant!
Slight personal annoyances: The deaths were pretty minor, really, and I'm suprised as many of the kids escaped as they did. And, despite ample opportunity, that brat Draco never redeemed himself. There's nothing like a good face turn.
I'll probably re-read it again soon, but for now, I'm pretty darn happy with how things all turned out - a bit eye-rolly at Ron and Hermione especially, but everything made sense with everything else. That I noticed.

I have not received my copy of the book yet, but just want to say that I am terribly sad to hear one of the Weasley twins died. They were my favorite characters in the books by far. I'm glad, at least, to be prepared for it before reading, but I had a feeling she'd kill one of them - she had to kill some of the characters off, and couldn't really kill any of the trio, so the death of a twin makes it more dramatic. Still, sadness.
