Is Ebay worth it? I've considered putting this fake, excuse me, faux (I know it sounds better that way) fur and leather ankle length coat, that I affectionately call the pimp coat, up there hoping to find someone who would pay at least half as much as the coat cost me ($200.)

My name is Stardancer2001, and I am an eBay wh0re. I sell more than I buy, otherwise I would be broke.
You can get almost anything you can imagine on eBay. I also have stock in eBay as well!
Nadia, it all depends on the wear, style, and condition of the coat.

I've found so many books for my research on eBay. I've also gotten some antique furniture. Every so often, I go on a hunt and bid my lil' heart out on Barbie clothes or vintage lampshades.

OK, for you Ebay experts, please tell me this. I've never used it, but have something barely used, still of value that I'd love to sell. I have seen other sellers on Ebay with similar items. Some sellers seem to do well and get reasonable prices, while others with the same item get almost no bids. What makes people bid on one seller's item over the identical item from another seller?
Is it true that people are more apt to bid on items put up by experienced sellers?

Yes. I would prefer to buy an item from a seller with high feedback than a newbie. Also price is a big factor that determines if your item will sell. It's always better to start your item price low and you could get bids.

And good feedback!
Also, when you start selling put as much information on there as possible. EBay attracts the intellectually-challenged like a Michael Jackson site attracts the crazies. Use simple words and a cattle prod to deal with them, and you should be fine.
Whenever I listed an item, I used to always put the postage for "UK", "EU", and "everwhere else". It kept it simple. And I would always have someone in America (sorry) email me and tell me that they were in "___, USA and how much is the postage?"
Now I put the postage for "UK", "EU" and "US and everywhere else". It's cut down on the "I'm in America and how much to post to this state?" emails but it hasn't stopped them completely.
Oh, I also got left negative by some dingbat who only realised after the auction that she'd been bidding in UK pounds not US dollars. You know, 'cause eBay doesn't tell you that on the auction page. [/sarcasm]

This is so freaky - five minutes ago I thought, "Man, I wish there was an Ebay thread here." And then I scrolled down and here it is. I am so addicted to Ebay. Even if I know I can't afford to buy something, I watch it anyway, just so I can see how high the bidding goes and then regret not bidding myself. I think it's fun to see what other people have bought/sold by clicking the item links next to the feedback. Then I don't feel so bad for spending so much money on crap I will never, ever need. I found this today, so apparently there are even more hardcore Ebay bidders out there than I thought. (No, I'm not one of the bidders. Heh.)

I love Ebay. I've bought several things, lots of vintage dishes, a danish modern side table for $10, and my Ebay prize is a fake Kandinsky painting that I got for one penny (of course I did have to pay about $20 in shipping).

This coat I have was worn once for about twenty minutes. That was probably three years ago. It's been in the back of my closet since not seeing light of day even once. It's in new condition except for a little dust.
