Although I sell outside of Ebay all the time, you can always cite their rule that you not do it. You could just say that this is the only one up for auction at this time. That way you aren't lying. No one can fault you for wanting to get the best price for your stuff.

I bought a really cool DIY top from someone a few months ago, and she listed the measurements and classified it as a Large. I'm generally a large in just about every top I buy, but this one is a leeeetle too tight. It fits, but I would have liked it to be a bit bigger. She did put the measurements right in the listing, so I suppose it's my fault. It seems like all the people who make that stuff only make it in small or medium, rarely large, and almost never extra large. Every time I see something cute I'm like, "Oh, wait, I'm not an extra-small, never mind."

Whenever I see clothing, the majority I find is (x)large or medium. Or it's a "small" but really fits someone who's a medium. And then I won't realize until it's too late. Hmph, picking out clothes sucks.

What do people feel about sellers who wait to leave you feedback until you've given them theirs? I feel like 90% of the people I've bought things from do this, and while I've never had any problems, I sort of feel like they're holding your feedback hostage or something. If I've paid I've pretty much done my share, right?

Sluttymary I feel the same way and it pisses me off. I tend to not buy form sellers who state that they will leave positive feed back upon my doing the same. They tend to do it in a sing song way like "I love giving postive feedback, don't you?" or somthing along those lines. I had one person who I bought from who emailed me that I (as a new buyer) needed to give her positive feedback before she gave me mine acting as if it was some real EBay rule. Unfortuneately this lady didn't know my aunt is pretty much a pro Ebayer and I was well versed in the rules. I never gave her feedback, about day 28 she sent me a 'friendly reminder' that I hadn't left feedback that basicly stated that she would tell all her friends that I was a bad Ebayer and to be lucky she would be out of town when the time elapsed or I would get negitive feedback. What a beeyotch.
As for me when I sell somthing upon their paying and my shipping off the item I leave feedback. If they ever give me negitive feedback I can always respond to it under their feedback.
You may want to after day 2 or three of sending your payment ask if they have gotten it. If they say yes you can inquire why they hadn't left feedback by playing dumb and saying you always seemed to get feedback soon after a transaction.

I can't say I blame most (not all) sellers who wait until the buyer posts feedback first. Much of the time, I give feedback right away, but I've gone through situations where I give feedback right away, sent my package quickly and they receive it just fine. However, they'll leave a negative because it's not what they've expected. Nevermind the pictures are as clear as day and look exactly the same in person. And yeah, you can leave a response under undeserved negatives, but many buyers would not care why someone has a negative, they just care that the sellers have it in the first place. So, if I see a history of feedback given by the buyer that has really petty, superficial comments, I'll wait until they get their package and are satisfied first. But then again, if I haven't left feedback already, I won't bug them to post first.

I love eBay, but I do wish sellers would rate me right after I buy. A lot of times I don't get feedback, but I always pay within minutes of buying the auction. One time, I ordered something, payed for it right away and it never showed. I kept emailing the seller requesting some status. He finally emailed back saying he didn't have the item I ordered and he refunded my money. OK, maybe I was a bit drastic, but I gave him negative feedback. He didn't even have the item he said he did, I payed for it right away, and he took his sweet time giving my money back. I think that's a pretty crappy system. It pissed me off because he gave me a neutral rating with the comment, "Mistakes happen. Sorry." Yes, they do, but why do I get a neutral for it? I help up my end of the bargain, he didn't. Sigh, people are annoying. I usually don't buy anything too big on eBay, but I would eventually like to start selling things. I love that they have nearly everything I could ever want, and I've got some really cool things from them.

I don't think you were drastic. The seller didn't have the item he claimed to have, then you had to chase him for a refund. In my book, that's a bad seller. He shouldn't have given you a neutral either.
A friend of mine, N., won a photograph off eBay a couple of weeks ago. It was an "origional" 8 x 10 photo, the seller said. When it arrived, it was clearly a copy made from a much smaller photo, as the picture was extremely fuzzy and overblown. N. emailed the seller about it. Turns out the seller is selling the copy (so...not "origional" then?) for her friend, and if N. wants a better, smaller copy, she'll have to pay for it. N. emailed her back and said she'd prefer to have a refund and to return the fuzzy, overblown copy. Last I heard, she was still waiting for a reply. She hasn't had feedback from the seller either, so I suspect if she dares to neg the seller, she'll be negged in reply.

Ugh, it happened again. A buyer gave me neutral feedback for the item "not being what she expected." What is WITH these selfish buyers that use their personal opinion of the item to leave feedback, instead of the fact that, oh I dunno, it looks exactly like what the picture and description told them? Argh, this makes me so mad.
