Of all possible sparkly, princessy, fairy-type characters, Batgirl wants to be Dandelion, the best friend from Barbie Fairytopia. Which means a) making the entire thing from scratch and b) no one will know who she is anyway. Gah!

Ds3 has changed her mind and decided she really wants to be Rosetta from the same, and I feel the same way about it. And I had actually figured out how to recreate Lady Gaga's bubble outfit for a seven-year-old...darn! We may compromise and let her go as Fancy Nancy from her favorite books. Easy and more recognizable to our neighborhood, at least.

I made the costumes, and on the day of was asked at least three times if they were priests. Annoying for me, but they were totally thrilled so it was worth it.

I think that Batgirl just really wants to have the dress to wear (last year she was a cheerleader and wore the skirt I made a fair bit after) so I don't mind too much, but talk about a challenge! I think I know how I'll do it if I have the time. We're trying to get our house ready to sell and I have a list of crap to do around the house as well! Thank goodness Batboy is well beyond getting dressed for Halloween (he's in that in-between phase; too old to dress up for trick or treating and too young to dress up for parties.)

I'm going as Flo, the Progressive Insurance girl. That was hubby's suggestion for me last year (methinks he has a thing for her) but we ended up not dressing up or doing anything for Halloween. I'm just wearing white pants, a white polo, an apron with "Progressive" ironed on (I'm making it myself for about $3.50, as opposed to paying $20 online for one), nametag (that I did get online) and a blue headband. It's kind of a lazy, unoriginal costume, but people, I am out of ideas. It was that or Snooki, and I'm scared of using that much spray tan.
Now, hubby tells me that I need to come up with an idea for him. I've got nothin'. He's a nerdy-cute guy, so maybe I'll make him dress up as Chuck (in Buy More mode, of course). That would be one hell of an easy costume. Black pants, white shirt, gray tie. Oh, and a pair of Chucks, of course. I don't know. I have no ideas this year.

Maybe he could also be someone from a commercial, Shanmac, so that you could keep the theme going? What about Vince the Sham-Wow Guy, or Zombie Billy Mays? (Sorry, Billy.)
I'm still trying to decide on a costume for myself. I've been tempted to do the Mad Men thing for a few years (and folks say I look like Elisabeth Moss) but I haven't found a perfect vintage dress yet.

Actually, one of the latest Oxy-Clean commercials has that Australian guy named Anthony something, saying, "Billy always said, 'It's not clean 'til it's Oxy-Clean'"--and there's a giant, ghost-like clip of Billy talking behind him! The kids and I have been talking about how creepy it is ("Run, Anthony! Billy's ghost is RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!"). Sounds like a perfect costume to me...

I thought the same thing when I saw that commercial, divasahm -- "How tacky that they're playing on the idea of ghostBilly." Hmm, he could probably pull off Sham-Wow guy (without that same level of skeeve, obviously).
Is Anthony the guy who tried to convince viewers that it was OK to mop soda up off the floor, then squeeze it out into a glass and drink it anyway ("in these tough times" you don't want it to go to waste, obviously)? I thought he was joking the first time I saw that, then realized with horror that he was not.
