We actually ran out of Halloween candy at my store. That has never happened in its history! This is a HUGE grocery store and we always overbuy. Latecomers had to get regular candy from the candy aisle. I sold the last bag of Halloween candy (it was hidden in a gobacks cart) to a customer around 7 30 pm. Saw lots of people and kids dressing up too.

Saw lots of people and kids dressing up too. YES! I bought a bag with about 150 pieces back at the beginning of October. I just didn’t want to get stuck with a lot of candy like we were last year. But when I showed it to Mr. Tanyak Saturday night, we decided we should probably get a little bit more. I hit up target yesterday, and they had nothing left. Not one single bag. Not even the stuff people don’t really like like Now and Laters or Smarties. Even the regular aisle was cleared of any sort of bagged candy. I struck out a grocery store too. My next stop was Walmart, which also did not have a single bag of Halloween candy left and the regular candy aisle was also crazy. One man was trying to get together some candy for a trunk or treat, and he gave me two of the last bags of Hershey miniatures and he took the other two. He was in a similar situation. He had already bought a lot of candy but then found out that more kids than they had planned for were coming to the trunk or treat. DH stay at home to hand out candy and said that it seemed to be back at normal levels. I took little Mr. Tanyak and two of his friends out and they made out like bandits. It was pretty much standard trick or treating. Very few bagged items or tables in driveways, which had been the recommendation last year.

Ds2 and ds3 have been handling the Halloween treats for the last few years--Ds2 decided last year that the trek up the driveway to our front door was a bit much for some of the little-bitties, and set up a card table with a battery-lit jack-o'lantern and a bowl full of candy at our mailbox. He and ds3 had a wonderful time greeting our little neighbors together (they don't always get along, so that was a Halloween miracle), and when they decided to do it again last night, several neighbors commented on how nice it was to see the older kids (they're 21 and 18) helping the little ones have a fun evening...

So we live in a cul de sac off of a cul de sac. Our neighborhood is one of the few in town with both street lights and sidewalks (we fancy). Also my daughter is unparentable and in second grade.
On Halloween we were waiting in front of a neighbors house to for the gang to assemble. This neighbor has twins, a girl and a boy. The girl had her crew from outside the neighborhood come trick or treat (group costume and sidewalks and streetlights were the reason). Two of my son's friends from outside the neighborhood were running a bit behind, so we were waiting. My daughter basically was like "I'm blowing this popsicle stand.. there's candy to get!" and took off with the fifth grade girls. She got separated from them but continued to do the neighborhood on her own (we were getting regular texts from neighbors "G is here" kinda things). At one point a neighbor texted and said "I've got her here, where do you want me to send her" so I said to just send her back to the house where we started we'd be there in 5-10 minutes. We get there, and the grandmother manning the door says "she was here about 10 min ago and checked in but said she had more houses to go to" So I head to go look for her. A mom of one of the older girls says "she's back on Gatehouse with X and Y" (other mom's I know). They had met her a couple of times so they knew who my daughter was and were just keeping an eye on her. So I catch them and my daughter shows me her OVERFLOWING bag and the mom's report that at every house when they asked her what she was, instead of saying "I'm a butterfly" she told them "I'm an independent woman who doesn't need a man" and got extra candy because they were laughing so hard.
Now, my son and his friends WOULD NEVER have just taken off and gone by themselves to trick or treat at age 7. They were all very skittish and cautious. My daughter was born with zero F's. The common refrain I get about her is "I'm terrified of her and look forward to voting for her in the future" *
So I now have about 15 lbs of candy to swipe from her bag alone.
*her first grade teacher last year in the parent teacher conference actually said "I, um, I think there's a healthy sense of mutual respect there between the two of us now"
