I've been on the waiting list for a Honda Fit since July, and I just got an email saying it's almost here! I can finally dump my crap Neon. I got my fit June 14th. I looooooove it! What a fun car. I'm dreading the idea of having to put snow tires on it, though. We'll see. Have you been to the FitFreak forum yet? Pop in, say hello!

Quick question: how much does it cost, roughly, to get your alignment fixed and your tires rotated?

Rotation shouldn't be more than $20. Most places have free rotation through a coupon or if you bought the tires there.
Check with Midas. They have a standard prices and use them as a base.

Nice! Everyone I know who's owned an Acura has really liked it. I hope yours works out for you.

^Uh oh, that last post is ominous.
There is a fair to good chance that I'm going to buy a 2000 VW Golf tomorrow or Monday. I found it on Cars.com and I checked the Carfax report. The only thing that raises my eyebrow is that I would be the fourth owner. Is that weird? Also, a warning came up about the car being registered in a disaster zone because this is Katrina-land, but that doesn't concern me unless I see actual damage like moist headlights, mildew, rust, etc. FWIW, the last owner bought the car a while before Katrina and still has the title, so I'm not too concerned that it was a junked heap.
This is the first car I've ever bought. I had my last car for almost 10 years, and I finally confronted a part problem that is outrageously expensive in proportion to everything else.
Also, does anyone have any recent experience VWs? I know they can be prone to quirky German things, but realistically, is buying a seven year old car asking for too much trouble?
