Lately there has been a really funky smell coming out of my air vents and it is driving me crazy! Does anyone else have this problem? I looked under the hood and there isn't anything dead in there so what is it and what do I do? Air fresheners don't help because the car ends up smelling like sea breeze...with a tinge of musty ass thrown in . I am remedial when it comes to cars so any help is appreciated ;D.

I had to take my first Eclipse to the garage a couple of times to get the air vents cleaned out because MICE were living in them.

ETA: Mr. Sunnyhorse says ixnay on "Izzard" as a name for the Mini, but I thank you for the suggestion nonetheless!

A friend of my parents had a snake die in their air vents. I kid you not. Get those puppies flushed or removed or whatever it is they do to them.

Yeah, I think we had a rat's nest burrowed somewhere under our car and it smelled like shit. Get it removed for the sake of your sense of smell.

Mice? Snakes? In the vents? You guy are totally freaking me out!

It gets worse. I had mice build a nest in my vents, giving the car a sweet, musty smell. They also managed to build a nest somewhere else in the engine which caused it to ignite while I was driving down the highway. That was not a good day.

Lessons learned this weekend.

1) When buying a certified car check where the brake pads and tires are compared to recommended replacements.

2) Getting a nail through a sidewall with a all time 4 wheel drive, requires replacement of all 4 tires.
