I finally have a big enough stash to buy an iPad. Before plunking down the cash is there another tablet to consider? Also, my LG Android phone is getting slower and slower to respond. How are the other Android phones? Pull the trigger. IPad is definitely the best. I am typing this message on ours.

Bitca, I got a Lenovo earlier this year, and I'm pretty pleased. (I make my living on mine and I'm on here with you guys, of course, so it gets a LOT of use. So far everything's held up just fine.)

Thanks Borokat. I've been wanting one for ages but I have a hard time spending that much money on myself. Well, all at once, anyway. It doesn't seem so bad when it's a pair of shoes here, a cute top there...

It doesn't seem so bad when it's a pair of shoes here, a cute top there... Think about it in terms of all the different things that you can do on it. Our whole family uses it for different features. I was meh until we got ours (it was MrB's birthday/Father's Day gift last year) but I cannot imagine life without it.

Still torn what I should buy for a laptop. Want something that can play movies ( for the kids), allow me to skype, do work from home. We would prefer to keep it under 1000 bucks.

I just bought an ASUS laptop from BJ's warehouse. It's a 17.3" with 8GB RAM and a 640GB hard drive. Still setting it up, but so far it's super fast. Normally sells for $699 but they have it in the coupon book for $569.99.
After talking with some IT people, I had narrowed down my choices to ASUS or Toshiba.

I got my iPad (and a cute cover 50 percent off at nine west). Now, what do I need to load it with?

Mine's loaded with the stuff I'd need if my computer dies (Proboards, LJ, Twitter, Tumblr, facebook) some games (Words with friends, angry birds, 3d Mahjongg and another game I can't remember the name of), Pandora, and the St Louis Post Dispatch.

I like having Solitaire on my iPad/iPhone, and TTMR downloaded the Trivial Pursuit app, which is pretty good. I second the recommendation of the Proboards app because it really does make checking in here so much easier.

The Weather Channel app is awesome, and free. My favorite game right now is Fruit Ninja, and the version that's a tie-in with the movie Puss in Boots is actually really fun as well.
