I have, but I've also gone back and forth with cable and satellite TV over the years. I think I'm finally done, though. It was never much of an issue for me to cut it out because I got so frustrated paying $125 a month and never finding anything I wanted to watch.
My recommendation for canceling? Tell them you're moving to a place that isn't serviced by Comcast. It worked a charm when I gave Time Warner the old heave ho.

That's exactly what I plan on doing - telling them I'm moving to a Time Warner area. If I do it

I guess this would go here - has anyone successfully cut the cord to cable/satellite? Now that HBO is offering HBO Now, I am seriously considering it. I already have Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime. I would get an Apple TV and just buy a season pass for shows I like that don't show up on Hulu. I'm seriously thinking about it but nervous about the change. Also, I will have to fake my death so Comcast will actually cancel my plan and I'll have to find another ISP. Those jerks practically refuse to let you cancel. I did this for about three years. It turned out to be WAY more workable than I expected. Amazon Prime especially was a godsend. The only real drawbacks: - I was a little worried about not having access to the local news when weather warnings happened. However, I could just as easily get these on my phone. - I found it harder, mentally, to get into new TV shows. There is something to be said for flipping channels and sort of passively finding a show, versus having to actively seek out and order a show. Obviously that's not a terribly difficult process, but I would find myself thinking "Yeah... but I can always start that show tomorrow." And then I'd just never start the show. However, it's possible that this is just me I happen to have cable again because my apartment complex has a good basic deal, but honestly, I find that I have about five or six channels I rotate between. It's nice but it's nothing I couldn't give up.

I've definitely found this to be the case for me, so it's quite possible it's not just you and me. I really think there is something to, as you said, passively finding something on TV while flipping around as opposed to actively seeking it out. It took me forever to finally seek out Mad Men despite the fact that several people who know me well told me that I in particular would really like this show. There are several shows I keep meaning to seek out and it just doesn't happen as easily as when I could just flip around the dial and accidentally come across something interesting.

I actually am seriously considering quitting too. I already have Netfix and Amazon Prime, but barely used them because I had cable. I also had all the premium channels and watched all the HBO/ Showtime/ Starz shows. Showtime is going to come out with an option similar to HBO Now, and then I'd really only have to get Hulu. And, here's a "quiz" I found to help calculate potential savings. Savings calculator

According to that calculator, I could be saving well over $1,000 a year. Okay, time to seriously look into this.

I haven't had cable in years. The only channels I truly miss are MSNBC and TCM. Every once in a while, when I've had a really exhausting/crappy day, I miss being able to lie on the couch and mindlessly surf channels until I find something good to watch. But overall, nah.
Whenever those obnoxious cable shills are in a store demanding I stop and listen to their pitch, they get a polite, "I don't need cable, I have the internet".

I was going to dump Dish this year and it took me ages to make the call. They talked me into accepting the "welcome" package and they would drop me down to $9.99/month (down from 200 channels and $75/month). Jesus - the welcome package doesn't even include CNN, seriously! I also had to switch out my receiver because they were phasing out my old one anyway. I'm probably going to drop them altogether because the Welcome package is almost as bad as not having any TV at all. I mostly get by with Netflix (went back to 2-at-a-time discs coz streaming choice has gotten low), Amazon Prime, and random stuff on my Roku. YouTube has a surprising number of shows that I've wanted to check out or watch, particularly foreign ones.
Anyway, godspeed to anyone who chooses to battle cable/satellite - it's a worse addiction than coffee, cigarettes, etc. Oh and I can't get rid of Comcast because they actually have the best internet around here. But I refuse to pay them for TV too.

My friend did it (well, I don't think she had a full package recently, so not sure, but she lives without it). She's also spent a small fortune on devices like Roku and tablets on which she could watch tv, and she has all the services (Prime, Hulu, Netflix, and then some) and I'm positive she watches more than I do (as do my friends who have also cut the cable). I would dump cable without hesitation but my spouse considered this proposition and rejected it because of his English footie problem.
I suppose it depends on your motivation, really.

We have the English footie addiction too which means we have to get the higher level cable package. Grrr...
