If you're not getting paid to do it, it's a hobby, right? We've signed up to bike the tunnel/viaduct in February. This will be the 4th Emerald City ride we've done and I've always enjoyed them.

I'm making a kitchen mat out of torn up bed strips from an old sheet. I am disproportionately excited!

divasahm, It is so nice you want to see my finished product! It is definitely not going to be Pinterest-worthy, so I hesitate to display it. For my project, my original intention was to crochet the mat, but crochet stitches had too many gaps. My current, second attempt is a braided mat. Here are the tutorials I've been consulting: How to make a braided rag rug from fabric scrapsHow to make rag rugsI don't have a sewing machine, so I'm having to sew the braids together by hand. It is definitely not faster than using a machine, as one of the links claim. I'm making an oval rug and my biggest challenge is figuring out how to balance differently-sized stitches while sewing the rounds together.

This sounds amazing.

You could also try Nalbinding. It makes a pretty sturdy rug.

Use a strong thread. Work over a big towel so the pearls don't roll off the table. Keep any cats out of the room. Those are the only tips I can think of based on my beading experiences.

I just saw this temperature afghan posted on redditt. Instead of a calendar year it runs for every day of her son's senior year in high school. My son is going to be a senior next year and I am so going to make him one. I love the colors she picked and also the idea of it commemorating senior year. The temperature range she used would totally work for Seattle, and I have this summer to look back on what the temperatures were this year and get enough yarn in each color.
