I changed the color scheme so they are red, white, and green and the flowers look like poinsettias, so I guess they aren’t ugly anymore. I can’t say that I enjoy stitching on wood. It’s hard to finish the threads. That is most definitely not ugly anymore! It is super cute! I knit shawls/lap robes for our church to distribute to members with friends or family who are elderly or ailing. I think it drives my mom nuts--she taught me how to knit, but she's notorious for struggling to finish anything... Oof I feel your mother's pain. I still haven't finished the baby blanket I started crocheting for my daughter when I was pregnant... She's 27 And yes, I still have the unfinished blanket smh My daughter on the other hand, took the skills I taught her, and started up her own little cottage industry selling handmade infinity scarves to all her friends at SMU. So, I guess my skills paid off somewhere? I had a new year's resolution to get back to crafting and do something creative every day, but I've been sick, in and out of ER and that totally derailed my plans. I'm trying to tell myself that yes, my new year's resolution can start in mid-January. I don't understand why I struggle so hard to do something I actually like doing.

Not sure where to put this but these seems like where the crafty people hang out.
I'm helping to plan my friend's 50th surprise party. The theme is teen movies from our youth-- main one being Heathers. I'm trying to round out the decorations (they have a big open concept main floor) so I'm trying to be bold.
I have a balloon arch (mostly black, I'll add a handful of primary color ones and put croquet mallets at bottom.
I had a poster made from Heathers.
Now I'm trying to think of the rest. I have a Halloween mist maker (goes on water and produces mist and lights) that I'm wondering if I could use in something. It will be light out for most of the party so the lights wouldn't really be a factor.
Any ideas? With mist maker or anything

Could you mock up a little funeral scene to use with the mister?

How about print up quotes from the movies and hang them up? Like “I want my $2!” or “Does Barry Manilow know you stole his wardrobe?” (Ir from whatever movies you quote from)
Table names could be named after characters from the movies.

If Heather's is the main inspiration, perhaps souvenir t-shirts for door prizes with the "Suicide- don't do it" message, copies of Moby Dick, scrunchies and bottles of Perrier. Featured beverages could bs some sort of blue drink or perrier.
Love the tables named for characters idea! And the printed out quotes! This sounds like such a fun party!!!

How about the background color of the T-shirts or tablecloths be red, blue, and green? Scrunchies could be party favors but must be red only, of course. Hold a croquet mini-tournament? Other food idea: spaghetti with lots of oregano. Background music: songs from the musical.

Big colorful fans are a good way to fill large spaces or walls. You can hang them from the ceiling, too. I second (or third) the idea of quotes--you can get them custom-printed at Kinko's/FedEx, or make them yourself if you have cute writing. I'm hoping "Greetings and Salutations" makes the cut. A friend used an old picture frame for one of her big birthday parties. It was just the frame, with no image or glass, painted her favorite color. She made sure to get a picture of herself holding the frame with each guest. There were lots of creative poses. For another party, she had giant number balloons of her age. She's only about 5 ft tall and these were easily her height. They were great for photo ops--people were hugging them, dancing with them, etc. Have fun!

One of my goals last year was to become more active in DIY mending and making minor alterations in my clothes. I just finished my biggest project to date, patching holes in the knees of several of my kid's sweatpants by hand as invisibly as possible (I don't have a sewing machine). I thought I could have a bit of a break but now I'm seeing snags and holes everywhere! Aaagh! Maybe the bright side is that now I'll get lots of practice.
