Now that we're all housebound, I'm curious what everyone's hobbies are, beyond tech-based things like watch tv/movies, play video games. I read, make jigsaw puzzles, do word puzzles. No, I'm not 80. I do crafts, such as creating miniature rooms from kits and random stuff for holidays and home decor. I just made some cool carrots from styro cones and orange yarn as an Easter decoration. I also make pebble art, which I sell at craft fairs. I am going to love this line of discussion! Can you tell me more about your pebble art? Regarding the miniature rooms, we have a museum here in Tucson called the Mini Time Machine with all kinds of miniatures! One of my clients works there so I checked it out with my youngun. We've been back several times with visiting family and just the two of us. So I may need to know more about yours too.

papier mâché, because I like making pinatas. making traditional northwest coast regalia. I go full modern and create the designs digitally and have them laser cut, but I hand sew the final product. paper folding. origami like, but usually stuff like bags and boxes. I would like to try decoupage next. mostly to bring my folded boxes up a notch. I'm just researching it now because I'd like to make a nice box for a retiring co-worker. I'd also like to get into rock painting. I once found a cool painted rock on a beach and it really made my day. It was placed there by a group that plants fun painted rocks all over the place as a way to bring cheer and I'd like to be part of that. But I'm not good with the paints so mine will probably look like pre-school work or worse. I also like to bake. This is the main reason why I'm fat. Being single and can only pawn so many dessert off on my co-workers I am forced to eat too many of my own creations.

Also, I think people would be delighted to find painted rocks with pictures of cakes (or Nanaimo bars) on them. Convergence, you know?

I knit prayer shawls for my church, am just getting back into needlepoint and counted cross-stitch (I became obsessed with reproduction schoolgirl samplers as a child and love recreating 18th and 19th century examples), and reading biographies, history, and self-help books (Glennon Doyle's Untamed just arrived in the mail this week--I'll be cracking that open later this afternoon). I do like fiction, too--I just seem to find myself re-reading old favorites more often than exploring new books from new authors--working on that!
I also have about 250 hours worth of viewing left over from the post-op weeks, much of which features the hometown hunk. I strongly suspect some of that will remain on the DVR in perpetuity--I've watched CNN's Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice documentary several times now, and I can't seem to let it go.
Lastly, I spend a lot of time connecting with friends and family online, especially now that we're self-distancing. Keeping up with ds1's adventures has been fun, and I've gotten tons of great stitching ideas, additions to my reading list, and general merriment from my friends all over the globe. Being a hermit is actually kind of fun!

My stuff is far from instagram worthy, or meant for ceremonial purposes so I don't take pictures. I do like the idea of baked goods themed painted rocks though. Maybe all my rocks will have a Canadiana food theme - nanaimo bars, butter tarts, poutine...

I've heard about the mini museum, but didn't get there last time we visited Arizona. We've put a kibosh on visiting the US until the tangerine menace is gone. As for my pebble art, I create simple scenes with beach pebbles, sticks and bark. I've done family scenes, like parents and three kids sitting on a log. I've painted some night sky backgrounds for owls or cats to sit on branches. Dogs are popular too, and the more I do it, the more ideas come. I did several with seaglass and hand sketching showing drink glasses with different drinks and "Cheers!" but they didn't sell well. Pinterest has lots of examples.

I sew professionally (have a shop in my home) and also for fun. I haven't done any sewing for my own pleasure in months, though. Today I decided I was going to close my shop, finish the few things I have outstanding and offer curbside delivery. I have the materials for a couple of quilts, plus lots and lots of knitting yarn. I stocked up on library books and made sure I could access the public library's online resources. My spring garden plot is ready to fertilize and plant, and I have the seeds and plants for the summer garden (but that space has to be tilled, ugh.) ETA: If you sew here's a chart explaining the most effective and breathable materials to use for a DIY mask.

I am really excited that I'll finally have time to work on cardmaking. I started toying around with it a few years ago, but never seem to have enough time to really get my skill level where I want it to be. I want to send out handmade Christmas cards this year - it's looking like I'll actually have the time to get it done. Silver linings and all that!

If anyone is making masks, I've found that plastic coated speaker wire works well for the nose piece. The world has gone to bluetooth so you may know an audiophile who has excess they'd be willing to donate.
