I'm in a weird place right now. I have been vegetarian since 1992. I do eat some fish, but mostly because I live in Alabama and with the restaurant scene down here, it's really hard to find vegetarian options. But I don't seek fish out and I never prepare it at home. I'm trying to move toward vegan. I hate being the person with a zillion dietary restrictions, so my plan is to go vegan at home (or when things are under my control) and include dairy elsewhere. Honestly, cheese is my downfall. I don't keep cheese at home but if I'm out I really like it. Also, cream in my coffee at places like Starbucks. I know they offer soy, but it's a pain to ask for it and get it the way I like it, so I keep using cream. And finally, although I'm trying to go vegan, I really don't have a problem with continuing to eat fish. As a kid I hated fish and then Kurt Cobain said it's ok to eat fish because they don't have any feelings, which I've always taken to heart. So I may be the rare fish eating vegan.

Fish do feel. Anything with a central nervous system can feel pain (and likely fear as well).

Yeah, I count myself very lucky that a local cheese (Bothwell) is rennet-free. I'm not a vegetarian, but my daughter is, and she loves cheese.
