Thank you for all the advice regarding tofu and flaxseed oil. I really appreciate it. If I cannot find the tablets or powder in Krakow, I am going to Vienna for medical treatment in about two weeks, so I will get it there.

I'm an ovo-lacto veg and have been for about 12 years. I have thought about starting to eat fish again for years now... Seafood was always my very favorite meat; I've never had sushi (other than veg rolls. I know - crazy, right?); I'd just stick to ordering it out - I still want to keep a vegetarian home. But I just think about it. I can't seem to get over the hump. Damn you, pesky ethics!

Muva, don't beat yourself up. I don't judge meat eaters. If you want to eat seafood go for it. Life is too short to deprive yourself. I don't like meat and am not tempted by it, but I've known vegetarians who were. I always told them to go back to eating meat if they really wanted it. I recommended eating non-factory farmed varieties though.
I don't believe that the world could sustain a 100% vegan (or even lacto-ovo) population. Some experts disagree, but I just don't see how this would work out. I know that there are many great reasons to be veg, but I don't see how it could work for everyone. I also think about socioeconomic issues; some people can't afford to be vegan. Being a lacto vegetarian who consumes organic foods and products is very expensive. It would be much cheaper if I ate the genetically modified stuff grown with fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides.

True. On the one hand, maybe I should just do whatever I want. But on the other hand, I *do* judge meat-eaters and if I become one of them, I won't be able to participate in my favorite activity anymore: righteous indignation.
No, but seriously... I just think vegetarianism is the "right" thing to do. I am happy as hell that nothing has to die just to feed or clothe me. In this day and age, where we have SO many options, I think it's the responsible thing to do (for myself and the environment). So yeah... it's hard. Fish = delicious but is it worth it? So far, I guess my answer has been no. Who knows what will happen in the future, though?

Mulva, I see your point. I'm a vegetarian for ethical reasons, but I don't expect everyone to think like I do. Quite frankly, we're in the minority.

firstaid, "Vegan With a Vengeance" has a lot of really good recipes in it. I also like the blog, "Fat Free Vegan." I really like the dairy substitutes like Tofrutti (spelling) sour cream and veganaise, and adding nutritional yeast to most everything just makes me feel healthier.

Tofutti rocks. I'm adidicted to their faux cream cheese and sour cream, and I simply love their ice creams.
butternut, thanks for the book suggestion!

No problem, dichterin. There is a recipe in this month's Vegetarian Times for Walnut "Cheese" Bites that calls for tofutti cream cheese. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds really good. If you are interested, I can post it in the recipes thread. The issue also has a section with tempeh recipes for those of you who mentioned tempeh earlier.

Thanks, butternut. I ordered the book a few minutes ago. I'm always on the lookout for delicious, easy vegan recipes. I'm not a cooking connoisseur. I wish I were.

Thanks for the last few pages where you guys have put links to blogs (what an odd sentence...) Some of those blogs mention great cookbooks that I need to buy now. Off to half.com and ebay.
