Any New Yorkers get the reference to the Beauty Queen detective? A few years ago there was actually a female NYPD officer getting her hair done in Downtown Brooklyn, when the place was robbed. She got a promotion. Art imitates Life.

Very telling that Jack McCoy threw the envelope of pictures on top of his liquor bottle.

I just found this from a poster on TWoP:

There's not much known about Jack's daughter, except for the fact that he has one. The only time he ever actually talked about her was in a crossover episode with Homicide: Life on the Street, titled "Baby It's You (2)". It aired as a HLOTS episode (Season 6 Episode 5), so maybe you might not have watched it. The episode was aired in 1997, so it actually really is 9 years ago, and I'm quite surprised the writers stuck to the continuity - because they often tend to forget or ignore it for the sake of writing.

In that particular moment, Jack was been asked (by one of the HLOTS detectives) how a father can molest his own child. And Jack answers by saying that, one time when he and his family were vacationing at the beach, he sees the back of an attractive young woman. Naturally, he starts thinking about "things a man thinks when he sees an attractive young woman." And then the girl turns around, and he realizes that she's his daughter, and gets sick to his stomache. And then he tells the detective that, some ppl just don't have a conscience. But there's no mentioning of a name or anything.

I think Jack used to have a picture of his daughter (or so it seemed) on his office window-sill, but I'm not too sure if its still there. And then there's couple of episodes where he relates to perps (who are young girls) in a father-daughter kind of way, but he never actually has mentioned his daughter since. Or why he doesn't talk to her. But he's estranged with his ex-wife, so I guess he's naturally estranged with his daughter too?

So, still no real answer, but more information than before.

So, what does everyone think of the two new additions to L&O: Original? I'm enjoying the novelty of one of the detectives being both female *and* a total rookie.

The new DA is utterly gorgeous, IMO. And, thus far, I like her character too. Then again, the bar is set ludicrously low for me, since I've disliked or been unimpressed with every single one of the last 3.

I like the new detective, but the new ADA isn't quite working for me - she's a little ... overly brusque in dealing with the cops, maybe. Then again, I've always felt it took the writers a season to settle the new character into place.

Anybody see Tues. night's show (Oct. 31)? I fell asleep during the last 15 minutes of the episode that was on @ 9PM eastern.

Based on the JonBenet Ramsay story; the cops went overseas to bring the suspect home. Liza Minelli was the mom of the little beauty queen.

I can't believe I fell asleep! Mr.R was in the shower so he missed it too.

Looks like they're airing an episode this week based on the Mel Gibson incident. Chevy Chase will be in it. Whether he says "sugartits" or just "sugar" is unclear yet.

OKAY, but how did it end? Just like the actual news, and the guy was not the perp, was it the mother, what was the resolution?

BarbR It ending up being the close friend/author/neighbor. At first they made it seem like it was his son who killed her necasue he snuck back in the house to kiss Amberleigh. But lil Amber screamed and he punched her in the face and smooshed her head in the sofa. He panicked and ran home where he told his Mom. The Mom never told the Dad however, he found out and went over there to hide the body. It turns out that Amber was alive but the Dad panicked and killed her. She had died due to contusions on her head. The Dad also made sure his son stayed high and drunk so he wouldn't remember/talk about what happened and inadvertantly lead the po-po to the father.

I agree that Liza was creepy and great. Good epsiode.
