I never could stand the guy. He reeks of douche. It's unfortunate because I adore diner culture but I can't bear to watch that show.

Fieri went to Puerto Rico to film his show. I loved when he decided to storm the kitchen of the restaurant he was eating at, just because he is Guy Fieri, and the chef, a very well know and respected figure in the culinary industry, told him to gtfo.
ETA:
Jesus Christ! What a douche!

Wow. I went from being moderately embarrassed by my former defense of this douchelord to full on butter melting mode for the rubbernecking popcorn.
What a turd.

Fieri should be banned from tv on account of his stupid hairdo and backwards-sunglasses alone. It's hard to believe this guy has a career. I love the premise of Diners & Drive-ins, but I can't take him. For a very long time I wished someone else would take this show over so I could watch it. He doesn't want to film with gays? I try not to stereotype, but I'm pretty sure gay people like to eat too. It will be interesting to see how Food Network handles this.

Please don't tell me Guy actually thinks the dreaded gays are going to hit on him. Why is it always the most odious straight men who have the biggest delusions in this department?

Please don't tell me Guy actually thinks the dreaded gays are going to hit on him. Why is it always the most odious straight men who have the biggest delusions in this department? My theory is that it a projection of how they view/treat women. To these kind of neanderthal heterosexual men, "No" still means "yes," and so they just need to keep pushing until the woman gives in to her latent desires. So, Guy is afraid that gay men will keep at him until he gives in. I base this theory on my non-scientific observations that heterosexual men who treat women as equals are not homophobes.

You might be on to something, Karrit. The few homophobic men I know (well, am related to) usually had some detailed story to tell about being hit on, and usually didn't appreciate it when I'd point out "But that's how you treat women, so...?"
I actually thought Fieri might be putting on the whole douchebag schtick with an air of semi-self-awareness. Glad to know that hair and sunglasses thing is 100% in earnest. I think they should fire his ass and hire someone like George Takei, just to make a real point (and because seriously, can you imagine George Takei giving diner and dive tours? AWESOME is all!)

It's been two years since the last post on this topic, but nothing has changed. It's either All Guy All The Time, or it's Chopped. I miss the cake decorating battles and the sugar sculptures.

When I flip through the channels, all I see are cake or dessert shows. I have an aversion to cupcakes (in addition to Guy), so I don't even really pay attention.

A Canadian Chopped is coming in January. Tori Spelling's husband is the host. I'm excited to watch it. *hiding behind the couch smiley*
