I really liked it! I honestly think Smith is a much better actor than Tennant. I liked them acknowledging the wig but what was that thing they put on Karen Gillan's head? I was happy to see Amy pond because hers was the first face Eleven saw. Clara was decent this episode. That Nun seemed an awful lot like River Song. I will miss Eleven. Don't know Capaldi from other work so I guess Ill see how I like him.

It wasn't my favorite. Matt Smith was great, but it felt like Moffatt was doing stuff he'd already done and better-all the villains from the Pandorica Episodes, the nun being like River, everyone being a dalek from the first ep with Jenna Coleman....
I loved Matt Smith, though, and I liked seeing him as an old man. I'm curious about Capaldi and Coleman working together, what the chemistry will be. Very excited about an older doctor though.

Hated it! Spent most of the episode being bored out of my mind. So long, Matt.
I'm really hoping Clara/Jenna doesn't stick around for very long. Or, at the very least, that this fancying the Doctor business dies with Capaldi.

I thought #11 deserved better than dying of old age. I was bored, too.
All this time, the Doctor could have stopped the Weeping Angels by burying them in snow? That would have been helpful information to have a few years ago.

Double post but it has been a while...20 minutes into Peter Capaldi's first episode and I am unimpressed. I never really got into the Matt Smith version but I feel that at least he had some pep and likeability. I don't mind that this one is older but I hope in time it gets better.

Ditto. Other than Eccleston, I've never appreciated one Doctor until the new one arrived. Right about now I'd kill for David Tennant. I don't like care for the bland milquetoast of a companion, which is a double whammy.

I'm starting to realize that the companion character it what makes all the difference (for me anyway). It's the journey of the ordinary person tagging along that draws me in, and if I can't relate to or like that person, I just can't get into it. I really liked Rose and her family. I've never understood why she was so unpopular. Maybe I liked her storyline because it included her mom. There was also a bit of genuine toughness about Rose that's been missing with the last two companions, who are oh so adorable and cute when they try to be badasses. Anyway, I watched the first 15 minutes and intend to watch the rest of this episode and all the episodes until the end of the series in one way or another. It might take some FF'g and leaving it on in the background, but I've gotten too much enjoyment out of this show in the past to completely leave it. Even in the seasons that I didn't like, there were a few gems. I love SciFi and all the possibilities it brings. With a timelord traveling the universe, at some point there will be something interesting and intriguing.

I LOVE Capaldi. Love the new steampunk credits. Love the new interior design of the Tardis.
I tried to love Clara but I'm looking forward to a new companion.
What took me out of the show was Clara:
1) Not understanding regeneration. 2) Being weirded out that Vastra is reptilian and that the new Doctor looks older. 3) Having trouble understanding some basics of time travel.
If she were a brand new companion those things would be understandable, but after all the time-traveling she's done and the different races/species she's met, this felt like a real regression of the character and a lot of grossly out-of-character stuff to facilitate plot points.

So apparently ninjabunny was reading my mind as I watched this last night. So my frustration also was taking a perfectly creepy, but perfect as a one time only MOW and bring it back in an "updated" format which ruins the creepiness. For example, in Blink the Weeping Angels were so scary that I remember seeing a weeping angel statue while on a run one morning (a small one), and still checking behind me to make sure there was nothing following me. Now they take the clockwork soldiers from the Madame dePompadour episode, which was brilliant-and revamping them so they're less creepy. What made them terrifying in that episode? Was that they looked "sort of" human, like puppets with the clockwork noise. Then you add in that they weren't evil and killing people to BE people, but because they'd been programmed to fix the ship no matter what. They didn't have an agenda really.

Moffat can write excellent one-offs but he can't put together good multi-episode story arcs.
