Exactly. And even though I know Victor Garber would absolutely rock a death scene, it would just be too heartbreaking!
I loved last week's little exchange when Jack told Syd that Isabel was giggling at him. "Apparently I'm funny." Hee.

I don't know. I adore Jack, he's my favorite character and I will admit I'm not the biggest Sydney Bristow fan. She bores me for some reason. But I always thought the heart of the show was just about Sydney and her journey toward taking out the bad guys( SD-6, Sloane, Rambaldi, The Covenent,etc....) so she could finally get the "normal" life she's been wanting and making her lives of the people she loves safer. Everything else, including Will and Francie in the first couple seasons, Vaughn, and even Jack and Irina take a backseat to that.
But on the subject of her relationships I think her relationshps with Vaughn, Marshall, Will, Eric, and Dixon are every bit as much the heart of the show as her relationship with Jack. Her bond with Dixon on some level is probably even deeper then the one she has with her father. Her relationships with the others are what grounds Sydney and make her real. They may not be quite as interesting but my God I can't imagine where Syd would be today if she didn't have that support group of friends.
I think her relationship with Jack is probably the most compelling. Her relationship with Sloane coming in a very close second. But I don't think the Syd/Jack relationship is neccessarily the heart of the show.
I think Syd alone is probably the heart. Which is why she is one of the few characters who never went bad. Or even done anything remotely evil.

What I love about Sydney, and the show in general, is they don't just shoot guns and karate chop for the sake of having action. The characters have a driving force behind them--they don't just kick ass because they think it's fun. Sydney has a courageous sense of duty and a powerful sense of empathy towards others. And that essential force inside of her is so much stronger than any desire to have a "normal life" or anything like that. I want to see the show do something intense with that character element--something that truly captures the essence of Sydney Bristow and her close friends. And that may not necessarily mean a happily ever after ending for Syd, Vaughn, and Isabelle.
If I'm not crying at the end of the show, I'll be disappointed.

My God that finale sucked. Bad writing even worse acting and special effects. I'm speechless and I feel so let down.
So Rambaldi's endgame is something we've known all along?
I was spoiled and the ep still was nothing like I imagined it would be.

I haven't watched the last couple seasons, so I was a little lost. It was sort of a let down. It was interesting to see what happened with Sloane, Irina, and Jack. Sloane sure got his.
ETA: I agree the writing was just terrible. So cliche and I knew exactly what was going to happen next. I was sort of giggling at the emotional parts. I wish JJ would've been able to come back to write the series finale.

Well, just chiming in to say how much the series finale sucked. I've felt for some time that this show should have gone off the air after Season 2, and this confirmed it for me. I just hate how Vaughn can get shot in the chest a million times and live, but Jack had to die. Ugh, I'm just so disgusted.

The worst part about Jack's death is that it was so unnecessary. You can't tell me he couldn't have killed Sloane without killing himself, too. Plus, he said he was doing it because he didn't want Sloane to cause Syd any more pain. But hello, Jack's death would obviously cause Syd TONS of pain. So why would he blow himself up, if he didn't want to hurt her? Ugh. It didn't make any sense.
I don't know. The first hour was pretty good, but the second hour just deteriorated as it went on. And I was not comforted by that sappy ending.

I think that the point was that Sloan couldn't be killed. Rambaldi's science project gave him eternal life hence "no horizon" So the best Jack could do was sentance Sloan to an eternity of being trapped under that rock - which was pretty ironic. (I guess no more ironic then Rambaldi being stuck inside the prison) But I do wish he could have accomplished it without dying. Of course, I could be totally wrong in my effort to give meaning to a horribly written episode.

I feel stupid because I didn't realize Sloane was immortal until I went to TWoP just now. I guess I thought the magic Rambaldi water would simply heal his wounds. I was like, "Oh, that sucks for him, he'll just starve to death," but...no. All the time in the world -- makes sense now. Duh! Somehow I didn't get that...

While I admit the finale seemed rushed, I think it could have been worse. Ideally I would have liked this to play out over more episodes but ABC sucks ass so I have to take what I can get. For a while there it was rumored they wouldn't be back period. Onto the show. I will have more to post later but right now I am trying to get my voice back. I cried so hard over Jack's death I was shaking for a couple hours afterward. I kinda had a feeling he would go out in a blaze of glory but I held out hope that JJ wouldn't tear both parents from Syd. Thanks a lot JJ. You killed my favorite charchter of all time. You bastard. I will also say I was impressed with Balthazar Getty finally. At first I was yelling at the screen to go away as he was taking time away from my originals, but his last scene broke my heart. BG did a wonderful job of showing such a sad man that I feel bad for being annoyed with him. I cried for him too which shocked me. I also never thought I would end up hating Sark & Irina, but after last night I am glad Irina is dead and I am sorry Sark is not. Never thought I would say that.
