What are/were the TV moments that totally shocked you? Case in point: the rape of Dr. Melfi in the "Employee of the Month" episode of The Sopranos. Then there was the moment in the most recent episode of Desperate Housewives when Bree's son Andrew was caught necking in the swimming pool-with another boy! Post your favorite TV shockers here.

I screamed out loud during the first episode of Lost, when a crash survivor got sucked into the plane engine. Mostly because this happens within the first 2-3 minutes of the episode.
Another shocker for me are the "I Have a 160 Pound Tumor" shows on Discovery Health. I'm shocked that people let it get that ENORMOUS. It doesn't grow overnight!

I was shocked as hell to see William B. Davis show up in the series finale of The X-Files. Really shocked. Even though his name was in the freaking opening credits for "The Truth"! And I am, as we on the 'Net have been known to call it, the biggest spoiler whore who ever lived.

Is this fictional TV only? Or real TV as well?

Dr. Kimberley Shaw ripping off her wig on Melrose Place has to be on most lists. That was just... wow. Totally unexpected.
Another one that comes to mind is the life coach (forgot her name... Ada?) on Nip/Tuck really being a man. Man, my jaw dropped to the floor when that was revealed.

During the third season of ER, Drs. Benton and Carter paging a missing intern named Gant because they're in the middle of trying to resuscitate a man mauled beyond recognition by a subway train...and hearing the beeper on the belt of their patient go off.

Both. To say that the Challenger explosion was a shock would be an understatement.
Fiction-wise, Law & Order's Serena Southerlyn's asking if she was fired because of being a lesbian was totally out of left field.

The Challenger explosion is one of my earliest news memories. I was in grade 4 or so, and the 'special' kids had been allowed to go into a different room and watch the launch. Suddenly the most hyperactive one came running back into the room yelling "The Challenger blew up! The Challenger blew up!!!" over and over. I didn't even know what the Challenger was at that moment but I remember watching the footage of it over and over and over on the 6 o'clock news with my parents.
Of course, the most shocking thing I have ever seen on TV (most shocking thing I've seen ever, actually) is the second plane flying into the WTC. That footage is rarely shown these days (I think that's conscious?) but there's a part of my brain that still just shuts down and says "nah, that's a movie" when I see that. It still seems too...completely impossible...to be real.
