Oh defo..it takes two to tango, as the old cliche goes.
Poorfrances: Rosie is such a joy to work with *sarcasm*, but I admire her for saying that and not selling out for a job.

Stills from the new film. I saw the trailer on the big screen, it looked really good. Only toward the end, seeing Scarlett did I start thinking, "Is this the new Woody Allen?" Hope it's as good as it looks.

I think Match Point looks very interesting. A lot less like the "bad Woody Allen rip-off" movies he has been making for the past few years. I like Woody's films and don't know what to think about his messed up personal life. It is so difficult when possible child abuse is thrown in there because I don't want to completely dismiss something that could have been quite terrible by thinking that Mia just overreacted but... I also don't want to condemn Woody as a molester because I don't like that he left his partner for her adopted daughter. Sigh.
I think that some of his movies are GREAT and that the world of film would be a lesser place without them. I can separate the art from the artist (or I probably wouldn't be able to watch any of his movies with Mia Farrow) but I also find the "Woody Allen" movie persona very appealing. Because Woody has done such a good job of blending life and art (or making it seem like he blends his life and art) when it comes to his films, it is more difficult to shut out his unsavory personal life and enjoy his films for what they are.

What's the name of Mia's book? What Falls Away. It's a good read and surprisingly balanced about the whole Woody/Soon-Yi thing.

Re: Mia - I found the lyrics to Beware of Young Girls and they're pretty damn cool!
I was going to post them here, but then I decided that DUH!! a Mia thread would be a better home. I did a search but couldn't find one, so I'm going to open one, and pop the lyrics in there, if anyone's interested.

I'll help out in the Mia thread. I started reading my Woody Allen unauthorized biog again for blurbs.
ETA--I think she's going to be doing some work soon. Some of the recent info on Roman Polanski's trial mentioned it, possibly a sequel to Rosemary's Baby, can't remember.

So I'm reading Mia's book, and DAMN, what a prick!
(Mostly paraphrasing, despite quote marks) -When she found out about him and Soon-Yi and confronted him, he first said, "I'm in love with Soon-Yi" and basically Mia said they could have each other and go to hell, he then immediately said, "No, no no, I just said that, I don't mean it!"
And then one of her eldest sons came in and said that Andre, Soon-Yi's father was on the phone, and Woody's all "Nooooo, don't tell him, don't tell him, please don't tell Andre!" And he's rolling on the floor, moaning, "I'm so embarassed!" You're EMBARASSED? Excuse me? He's just lucky it was Previn's daughter-if Mia had adopted her with say, Frank, Allen would be six feet under right now. (As it was, Sinatra offered to break his legs for her).
Then when he sues for custody of the his bio son, and the two kids he adopted (Moses and Dylan), he didn't even get his own bio son's birthday correct, he was a total ass at the custody hearing, whining and playing the martyr, and actually had a FAKED child's drawing of the family he claimed his son Satchel/Seamus made.
At the time he was with Mia, he had been attending therapy sessions about three times a week for thirty years. What the FUCK? I'm guessing he found some quack who basically told him what he wanted to hear. Jesus.
-He's so fucked up and not in a good way. He spent a year designing a house to his tastes, then for some stupid reason, decided he didn't like it, and sold it, or had it torn down. Mia, knowing he didn't like baths but showers, designed him a nice tiled shower stall in her bathroom, and he didn't want it because the drains were in the center. So she had his own bathroom designed for him, and he never used it.
-He called his son "the little bastard", and was just so obviously nasty to the kids sometimes, even while pretending to woo them. Little Moses wanted a father so bad (he was adopted right after her divorce from Previn, who, to his credit, tried to include the boy when he was doing things with his children), and just always looked up to Woody. Finally, Woody adopted him, along with Dylan (the one he was obsessed with), and he just made that boy's year. Then, of course, Moses was heartbroken later on.
-At one point, Mia's bio son Fletcher was working on one of Woody's films, and he never had a break in 12 hours of filming, nothing to eat, out in the freezing cold, and ended up with an ear infection.
-He stormed into their home on Xmas Day (which he didn't celebrate), stomped into the kitchen to make apple juice while they're eating, then poured the juice down the sink, and when Mia pointed out how nicely her son had sang in church, he said, "Pardon me while I puke", right in front of the kid.
He's a real piece of work.
As for his films, I haven't seen any. That's not because of what happened, just that I haven't happened to have done so. And I could definitely keep his art safe-I like Roman Polanski's work, and I think the man is lower than the guts shooting out of roadkill asshole.
Oh, and I ordered the Woody Allen bio someone mentioned on the first page, that was unauthorized. I don't know when it'll come to the library (I LOVE my library system), but I'll be sure and get the juicy tidbits.

I remember that Mia complained that he had to ask the shrink about everything, even joking (but possibly not) that he wouldn't get a shower curtain without checking.
Did Sinatra really offer to break Woody's legs? Nice guy.

It's his birthday today, and TCM is airing some of his films along with a documentary about his career.

Oh no he di'in't (or however you write that). Sometimes I fantasize about being a judge. I would sanction the everliving heck out of someone for doing that.
One consolation is that all his recent movies have sucked. He is such a tool.
