Either in that film, Wild Man Blues, or during filming I also read that there is an interchange where Soon-Yi observes that he wouldn't speak directly to people but had a manager or someone give instructions, can't remember exactly, and says to him something like, "You look like such a jerk when you do that, speak to them directly", words to that effect. (It might be in the film or in the unauthorized biog on him, which I have.)
I also saw that at imdb. It's the latest most creative way for the old guys to explain dating and marrying girls the age of possible children or grandchildren.
I'm still hoping for one or two more great films from him.

Match Point comes out soon and Ebert calls it one of his 4 best films.

I saw Wild Man Blues and was surprised to see how Soon Yi was with him.
But to equal her "You look like a jerk" comment he at some point was describing how she was an orphan and that if she had not been "found" by Mia Soon Yi "would be one of those poor boat people". What an asshole.
At the end of the day Soon Yi may act sassy....which I'm sure he thinks is kind of cute and may have been a turn on when his "affections" for her grew....but at the end of the day she has no real power in that relationship. He said it. He's much older and has the experience...he can probably queitly manipulate her when he really wants to in ways she doesn't even know. And of course he's got all the money - which was what he is basically saying with his "if it weren't for a twist of fate you'd be a boat person" (it's a tad racist too IMO but I don't know if he intended that).
Her relationship with Mia is broken due to him. I'm sure most of her life is entangled with Woody now. And just like he said..like a child. She may be bitchy at times and talk back but that doesn't mean she's independent.

Gotta also love this part: Translated: So what that I didn't have the balls to end the relationship with Mia in a way that didn't cause great pain & shock to her & her entire family. What matters is that I'm happy now. Galileo had it wrong. The universe revolves around the Woodman. Ummm, wasn't Soon Yi underage when this relationship started? Wouldn't that mean that Mia "discovered" a stash of child pornography? Someone should introduce Woody to R. Kelly so they can start vacationing together...the pervs

Right so it's settled. CPMoG members will open up a kitty to get R Kelly, Tom Control Freak Cruise and Woody Allen to go off on a little retreat together.
We should invite Michael Jackson only I'm afraid even these three wouldn't want to hang with him.

She may be able to put him in prison with what she knows (just guessing) and that is some kind of twisted power. At the time of their marriage someone suggested that they will be stuck together forever because of the way the relationship started.

I read Mia's autobiography, and in it she claims that Woody was never around for the kids. They lived separately and he only showed up for dinner a handful of times in the 12 or so years they were dating. That's why she suspected Soon-Yi and Woody, because when Soon-Yi went to college she started hanging out with Woody a lot.
Mia also does portray Soon-Yi as borderline retarded, which is odd, because when that documentary about Woody came out several years ago Soon-Yi came across a bit of a bey-otch. Very bossy and definitely wears the pants in that relationship, and not at all the girl Mia portrayed in her book.

I read Mia's autobiography, and in it she claims that Woody was never around for the kids. That was the way she got custody of the younger kids, at least one of which was a Woody/Mia spawn. Woody was trying for custody in tandem with the child molestation charge he was fighting (at least around the same time). Mia's lawyer asked him if he ever helped the kids dress or undress, to which he answered "No" or something similar. Bingo, he doesn't really take care of them, no custody. Not that simple but it's the best I can remember from my book.

This whole scenerio is just revolting. Poor Mia! Her long time lover dumps her for her daughter. So he not only wrecked his own relationship with Mia, but he forever wrecked her relationship with Soon Yi. And what the hell is WRONG with Soon Yi that she would do that to her mother? Her frickin' MOTHER!! I wouldn't doubt that she was retarded or at the very least she lacks empathy and compassion and a sense of right and wrong. I have no idea how long she was an orphan before being adopted, but if she spent her first few months being ignored, it could explain this lack of character she displays. I saw an interview with Mia a few years back and she was very wistful about Soon Yi. Not about Woody, but you could tell that she missed her daughter and knew that it would never be resolved. Their time as mother and daughter was over.
Does Soon Yi have any kind of a relationship with her dad? With any of her (MANY many many!) brothers and sisters? Or is it all Woody, all the time? And was Mia's book good? I've wanted to read it for years.
And I don't know what to believe about the molestation charges of Mia's. I guess I tend to believe her because she really doesn't come across as a vengeful person. Yes, she was angry and humiliated by Woody and Soon Yi, but to make up charges like that seem to go against the kind of person she's portrayed to be.
And yet, I have a love for Manhattan Murder Mystery, which I think is a little gem of a movie. Alan Alda is hot in this movie and his chemistry with Diane Keaton is palpable. Everyone is so believable and I just love it. I bought it used and I tell myself that he didn't get any of my money. ... And then I went and bought Rosemary's Baby (Which I also just adore) to even the score. So THERE.
