I too think Soon Yi is a sociopath. And that Mia's right. Whatever Soon Yi's life was before Mia adopted her made her that way. 8 is quite old. The Soon Yi's personality had already been formed by then. And living in poverty and suddenly having Soon Yi probably was a one track mind focused on herself and what she wanted if she had vivid memories of having nothing and no way to get anything.
I wonder if Soon Yi ever loved Mia. Or if Soon Yi is capable of love at all. Maybe she just saw Woody as a better provider for her needs and just moved on. And of course Woody's the same. He wanted what he wanted. I wonder what happens when he doesn't want Soon Yi anymore. He better get a restraining order or something. She scares me. I could see her completely emotionless smothering him with a pillow in his sleep.
But really if woody and Soon Yi ended who would have either of them. That's maybe why they are still together. Neither has anywhere else to go after the way it started and what it cost them. They are both sick. They deserve each other and I hope they say together in misery forever.

Attachment disorder? Still, what did she see in Woody? He's old enough to be her dad, he's whiny, self-absorbed and way fug. Rich and powerful usually does it. She presently travels in the highest circles, doesn't worry about the rent and so on. I also suspect that at the beginning she may have thought she would have a career. I had a gorgeous roommate who was dating a not-so-gorgeous photographer. I don't think I ever saw any pics he took of her but safe to say it was a big factor in the relationship.

1. What was he like with Dylan? According to Mia's book he was really into Dylan/Eliza, in ways that seemed odd even before the molestation issue came up. He wasn't interested at all in his biological son but he was always touchy-feely with her, to the point where she was really uncomfortable about it. He'd hang on to her and not let go, even when she was fighting to get away. 2. (How many kids does Mia have altogether, anyways?) 13 still living, I think. One daughter died in 2000. 3. How does Andre Previn feel about Woody? Loathes him. Andre and Mia are still on good terms. 4. Does he still have a relationship with Soon Yi? I don't think so. For those asking about the underage issue, she was 17 at the time the photos were discovered. Technically she was underage. I know one of Mia Farrow's children, and they don't ever talk about Soon Yi within the family. It's like she doesn't exist.

I don't know if my characterization of Woody as sort of a sociopath brought up the idea that Soon Yi is a sociopath too or not, but come on.
We are talking about someone that spent the first EIGHT years of their life in an orphanage that was probably a shi thole and yet you're blaming her for taking up with her mother's long-term boyfriend that was 35 years her senior.
Yeah, she did a really, really shitty thing when she was 18 or so, but being self-centered as a teenager is nothing new. She's still an as shole, but I lay most of the blame on Woody Allen. Being an adult and a decent person means having boundaries and using your judgment. Not to say that any mistake is unforgiveable, but taking up with the teenage daughter of your devoted long-term partner is pretty devoid of any maturity or judgment and is unforgiveable.
He's just a disgusting human being, in my opinion.

Well, it's not so much that he's ugly as that he doesn't even have a decent personality. I know that's cliche, but think about it-it's a HUGE factor. Yeah he's rich and powerful...but...I dunno.
If he were a really great, wonderful person, then you could probably get past the looks, if you really loved him. But not Woody.

Well he is creative and a very clever conversationalist, is well cultured, etc. Louise Fletcher (one of his wives) and Diane Keaton have both spoken of the times spent with him as practically idyllic. If Mia was solo, i.e. no children, she probably would have had a better time with him. She is also cultured and clever.
I do agree that he is more to blame than Soon-Yi. His inability to deny himself whatever selfish want came into his mind was pathetic at best. Even the last firewall of societal distaste didn't stop him.
ETA--Just checked imdb, it's Louise Lasser (Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman) who was married to Woody. I knew it sounded wrong.

I thought Wood-yi and Soon-yi lived in Joan Rivers' old mansion off Fifth Avenue, that's like six floors and was built by a Vanderbilt or a Whitney, and I heard she encouraged him to buy it. Just saying... This is an interesting interview and also very telling. He really does sound like an ass.

Saying Soon-Yi probably had the same self-centred sociopathic tendencies as her future lover does not say she had the responsibility for what happened. Clearly Woody was responsible for that awful mess.
I think he said somewhere that Soon Yi persued him and not the other way round. Ha! She was 17..or possibly even under..noone knows for sure..I'm just going by she was 17 when Mia discovered the infamous nude pictures. Even if that was true that Soon Yi initiated the "seduction" it was his old ass who decided to welcome that and start sleeping with her rather than decline and either talk to her himself or even better seeing as he says he was not involved in the child rearing tell Mia and get Mia to talk to her.
He makes me so sick.

I agree with those who state the attachment or socipathic disorder.
Mia called her after the shit hit the fan and Soon Yi was like;"Seee ya!" and hung up and that was it.
I also read several years ago an accouint of Soon Yi coming into a shop, buying whatever she wanted and smugly told them to bill her husband in a "I'm rich now and I can have what I want and you can't" way.
Smothering him in his sleep?? hehehe Sweet justice, if you ask me.
They deserve each other.

Well, with an attachment disorder, it's usually caused by situations like the one Soon-Yi was in for the first eight years of her life. I've heard of older adoptees who have this problem.
Still doesn't excuse the two of them.
