I thought there was already a thread on this, but I couldn't find it. I started watching this show on TBS reruns recently, as I'm trying to finally make the connection between the 2nd season (when I saw a handful of eps and loved them) and the last few eps (huh?).
Back in '99 I liked Dawson, and Joey, and now I'm realizing how sort of pukey they both are. And Dawson is a tool! I never realized it until now...
I like Pacey, and Jack is muy hot. Yum.

I agree! Dawson is a total tool. The way he played games with Joey. I liked Joey, unless she did excessive whining about not having a mother and how she'll never get out of Capeside. But all in all I really liked her and Pacey together.
Did you see the farewell eps? Where she is still all nervous and self conscious with Dawson, but with Pacey she is relaxed and fun? Another ep to see is the one where Joey gets drunk at a party at Pacey's and Jack's. It is in the last season toward the end. After that ep they end up stranded in a Kmart . That was a wonderful ep too!

I didn't start to full-on hate Dawson until a season or two in, but I never understood why Joey seemed to prefer Frankenstein-Head to the charming Pacey.
And I agree - she was relaxed and happy around Pacey (throughout the whole series I thought, even when she "hated" him and was always smacking him upside the head), while with Dawson it was like she was always walking on eggshells, afraid to say or do anything that would set him off onto another sanctimonious tirade.
I also never understood why the writers made the "hero" of the show such a massive tool and made Pacey the good guy. I mean, he wasn't even flawed in a tragic or interesting or understandable way. He was just a huge jerk. Maybe they secretly hated James Van Der Beek.

Maybe it was a self-referential slam towards shows that made their 'heroes' into extreme while they made the 'bad' guys more human. It was the '90s, the age of Kevin Williamson's 'Wes Craven-inspired admiring of that which referenced itself' craze, maybe it was the ultimate in that train of thought?

Okay, it sucks how everything on this show is new to me now, as I didn't have anyone to discuss it with THEN, but I just watched the first episode of season 3. While yes, Dawson is a HUGE tool, I am not sure why we're supposed to feel sorry for Little Joey Potter when Dawson won't call or pay attention to her. Did she not, at the end of season 2, say, "I don't want to know you anymore"? Was he not just following instructions? Blah. I'm sure this is just the beginning of the show evolving from Dawson's Creek to The Tale of Little Joey Potter.

I have almost never hated a character more than Dawson Leery. When he "released" her to go to Pacey at the end of True Love, I almost had a rage blackout. You don't own her Dawson, you tool! She's not your "thing"! God. Also, Joey get a backbone and tell him to fuck off. I felt so sorry for her having to pick between witty and handsome Pacey and the toolish Dawson, oh Joey your life was so hard!!! Christ on a bike this show got annoying. Of course, I still cried like a baby during the season finale. Jen and Jack were touching okay?! I'm not made of stone!

All right. Just got done watching "The Longest Day" and "Show Me Love" this weekend, and I have to say it. Dawson is an ASSSSSSSS. It is rare that I actually yell at my TV when I'm watching something non-sports related, but OH MY GOD. What a whiney little bitch!!!! The whole boat race thing was ridiculous, and while we're calling out whiney bitches, this one's for you!!! GAH.

So the whole point of this show is to watch it in reruns and realize how stupid it was? Man, that's gotta be a first for 'Love Killed in Syndication.' In fact, that would be an awesome thread.

It's a shame to go back and watch this show, and then think about what KAK has become...it's sad, really.
