Yes-it was pretty good. It jumped around a bit, and I really, REALLY wish we had seen more of Mary, Queen of Scots. But it was pretty entertaining, and the costumes were DIVINE. I loved Elizabeth. Was this as good? Do you think there will be another sequel?

I haven't seen the original, sadly.
As for another sequel-how old was Elizabeth when she died? I wouldn't mind seeing a movie about Mary Stewart, personally.

In her last years, one of her royal favorites was Robert Dudley's stepson, the Earl of Essex. (She eventually had to execute him.) YOU must see the first Elizabeth. It is amazing to watch the transformation from shy, uncertain girl to glorious queen. Mary Stuart was an amazing, strong woman. I wonder why the Antonia Fraser biography was never made into a movie? Her Marie Antoinette bio was. (By Sofia Coppola.)

There will be a movie about Mary Stuart, with Scarlett Johansson. But I don't know if it's based on a biography or not.

I had heard the Ripper rumor before in connection with Victoria's family. There was at least one movie made that alluded to it. I also saw that A&E series. No, albert wasn't in love with her when they married, but she sure loved him. Thought the sun shone out of his ass.

Maybe not as neurotically about Victoria, as she was about him, but he seemed to be a very caring and good husband. As a father, eh, not so much. Jack the Ripper and Eddie, the Duke of Clarence-far too stupid to be The Ripper. He was border-line mentally retarded, from what I gather.

He did love her, though as a parent he was... uneven.

Yeah, he respected her and grew to love her as time passed. But I don't think the romantic thing was a two-way street when they married.
Has anybody seen the movie Mrs. Brown with Judi Dench? It operates on theory that she was set up with and became involved with a man by the name of Brown. Can't remember his position. Whoever set it all up was tired of her mourning for so many years and was trying to break her out of it.

He was basically a butler of sorts at Balmoral, who became her best friend. In the movie, it shoes that John Brown really wasn't her lover-just a close friend. (BTW, that movie was fantastic)
As for her life-long mourning, once she snapped out of the depression, wearing mourning garb wasn't such a big deal. It was pretty common for widows to do so for the rest of their lives.
