BBC America is running the fantastic BBC miniseries House of Cards this Sunday, Feb. 17. If you haven't seen it before, I urge you to tune in -- you're in for a treat. If you have seen it before, then -- like me -- you know you're in for a treat and are preparing to burrow into your couch for a wonderful afternoon of political scheming and machinations.

I should give that one a try seeing as THEY'VE CANCELLED THE HOUR. Bastard people. I can't believe they cancelled the show. And they left it with a near-death Freddy sprawled out on the grass in front of the BBC studio. Nope, it's not important to know if one of the main characters lives or dies.
Fuckers.

OMG the cancelled The Hour? I thought the Americans were cutthroat. But we've got Two and a Half Men, Anger Management AND The Big Bang Theory...we're wimps. The Brits don't f*ck around.

Damn shame about The Hour. It was solidly entertaining. Has anyone seen Fresh Meat? I was wondering if it was worth checking out on Hulu.

I was PISSED when I heard this last week but for some reason I'm not surprised. I don't think the second season was as good as the first. However, I thought this show had a lot of love in the USA. Oh well.

Well...technically the BBC doesn't cancel things, they just don't renew a show for their line up. They basically order anew every year. Though they can be cutthroat, Larkrise to Candleford was a success, but after 4 series they wanted something else for a change, and TPTB simply announced a fifth series would not be made.

Oh well. Overall, in the past few years the BBC shows I've seen have been superior to a lot of muck I wade through US network stations on the regular ( The Hour, The Fades, Misfits, Sherlock, etc.)... F*ck it, I'm an unapologetic Anglophile, and the web has made so much good media available to me. I should be used to it by now, but it's just really disappointing when I fall in love with a show, only get six or seven episodes, and then it doesn't even last past a season or two. It's a bummer.

I comforted myself by watching Call the Midwife last night. A great episode. How many programs in the U.S. would deal with what women faced when birth control options were limited? And treat a woman who had an abortion sympathetically?

And treat a woman who had an abortion sympathetically? And how forward thinking the nuns really were, they were quite pragmatic and realistic about the circumstances people lived in, including the heavy burden of having a large family and limited funds. You'll also like to know a 3d series has been commissioned.

Watched "My Mad Fat Diary" over the weekend and loved it. While I didn't find the lead character always that likeable, I was still rooting for her. And the final scene between Rae and Finn was the cutest thing ever. I liked that the boy she fancied wasn't some bad boy who needs to be rescued but simply a slightly grumpy teenager who wasn't good with words. I read on another forum that it was highly unlikely that a hot guy like Finn would go for someone like Rae but I didn't find it unrealistic at all. I think they did a great job of showing what he loved about her. I need a second season, now!
