I guess it's no wonder Mike Richards, briefly the new Jeopardy host, wasn't vetted properly by Mike Richards, Executive Producer..... Seems a wee bit of a conflict of interest for the guy who inserted himself into contention for host and sabotaged others in the process to be in charge of selecting the next new host (again) but what do I know?

I think the months and months of guest hosts was a bad idea; it made everyone an expert/think they should have a say. I had just assumed Ken Jennings would take over. If they had just gone that way, I don’t think there’s be all of the hand wringing over it.
Frankly I think they should just hire some (properly vetted) no name, and get on with it.

I'm not convinced that a large part of the reversal wasn't Mike feeling the heat and deciding he didn't like being in the kitchen. He had not experienced any significant level of fame until his guest host stint. After that aired, people were going out of their way to praise him and I'm sure it felt really good for a behind the scenes guy to feel so many accolades. He probably assumed that was what fame was like and decided he'd enjoy it. Then when the negative stories started coming out, he got to feel the other side of fame - the side anyone in the spotlight knows is there. I think he realized he had a really good gig before he messed it up stepping in front of the camera, and I think that played a big part in the reversal.

He wanted to be a game show host for a long time. There is a video online of his tryout for The Price is Right hosting gig. He manipulated the tryout process to his advantage - falsely claiming that he had to step in at the last minute to cover an absent guest host and chosing which videos of the guests hosts to send out to the focus groups being polled for their opinion.
I think he only stepped down because Sony made it clear he needed to go. I wouldn't be surprised if they held losing his EP role over him to force him tp step down. No way was that entitled douche bro going to step down and give up the gig he had long coveted unless he was nudged to do so. Throughout this entire process & fallout he displayed zero self-awareness. I'm sure he thought he could coast through and keep the gig. Frankly he should lose his EP role as well.

Sony have finally pulled the plug on Richards as Executive Producer so now they need a new EP and a new host.
