HGTV has me watching this shiz. Well, I'm in the room anyway; I probably actually watch one or two scenes per week. But of course I watched with rapt attention last night! FUCK this dude!!! Who breaks up with someone on camera? WHY? Had he been acting normal and lovey-dovey during their secret meetings, and just saving up the big bombshell for the cameras? And -- AND! -- he tells Becca that the whole time they were "hanging out," he has been thinking about the other girl. Hanging out? HANGING OUT? You're engaged and supposedly in love.* What a dick.
* Of course, that premise is ridiculous. You can't force-fit falling in love into a reality TV time frame. But that is the premise they all agreed upon, so now follow through, you tool!

You had to break up with her in front of the cameras? You didn’t have the decency to do it off camera? And every time she told him to “Get out” or “Leave” and he would just stay there! Like what are you waiting for? For the producers to tell him he can leave? I saw speculation online that the contract may have stipulated that a breakup had to be on camera, too. I haven't watched this season at all, but I'm enjoying the freak-out online today.

My mom watches this and she went on about it at great length on our nightly phone call yesterday, she too was wondering why he didn't just leave. She doesn't like the guy this season and thinks both girls would be better off without him (she really only watches the show because she likes Chris Harrison.)

I saw speculation online that the contract may have stipulated that a breakup had to be on camera, too. HGTV was saying the same. That seems probable. Poor Becca -- that scene was PAINFUL to watch.

Agreed. If this had happened IRL (in other words, a scenario without contracts and cameras), not only would he have hightailed it out of there as soon as he managed to spit out the words, he probably would have done it via text message or some other cowardly way. He wouldn't have spent any more time with her than necessary if he didn't have to. Especially since he clearly had nothing to actually say, he kept repeating "can we just talk for a few minutes" and then would just sit and stare off into the distance. And really, what could he say? "I never meant to hurt you" doesn't exactly fly when the guy shows up with a camera crew in tow to publicly humiliate her. As much as this is all ridiculous and much of it is likely staged, this is still an actual person who will now be forever remembered for this. The machinations are clear (hence Chris Harrison's barely contained glee), but it's still a super shitty thing to put someone through.

One of the other Bachelors did this to his final two a few years ago, so I guess they wanted to make sure they had the video if it happened again.
And so it did.
Will True Love ever win???

Good thing the phrase ‘dumpster fire’ now exists in the dictionary to appropriately describe this situation.

I can't help thinking the entire thing was staged. Nobody seemed to cry real tears, you know, the kind that actually stream down your face. If any of this were remotely real from an emotional standpoint, there would have been ugly crying. Lauren did the dab the eyes thing in the limo. Becca did the head in hands thing. Arie did the blank stare/moist eyes/pouting man-sad thing. Nope. Not buying any of it!
Arie was so blah and dull. He's a boring, unintelligent spoiled daddy's boy who cruised through life. There's absolutely nothing interesting or entertaining about this guy. Hence, the manufactured drama. They really need to do a better job finding bachelors that are actually desirable.

I've never thought that any reality show was anything but staged.
