Some parts of the finale were "cute", I guess. I am just glad that they finally took this show out back and put it out of it's misery. And mine.

There were some good moments, but overall I found it kind of depressing. I hate it when sitcoms forget that they're supposed to be funny and go all serious and dramatic on us. That being said, I loved Jack & Karen's duet at the end. But then I'm one of those who has always believed the show should've been Jack & Karen instead of Will & Grace.

This show's actually coming back! I heard they were doing some kind of reunion months ago and I wasn't paying enough attention- so I thought it was going to be a one off (Like when the Brady Bunch used to every now and then have a Special) But this will actually be their 9th season and there's a 10th one listed on IMDB.
I wasn't super interested in any kind of W&G revamp. I liked the early seasons back in the day, but I never really watched the later seasons. But now because of this new season, they've put all the old ones on Hulu. I marathoned the first season over the weekend and was charmed all over again. The show actually holds up pretty well. Some of the jokes are dated, of course. But the chemistry between the cast and the timing of the comedy is on point!
I forgot how much physical comedy was in this show. Like, there was a great scene where Karen wants a hunky EMT to give her some CPR pointers and so pushes all of Grace's things off the table to lie down. But before they start, Jack comes in and sees the hunk and so he pushes Karen's head until she slides off the table and lays down himself. Then they had a more serious episode where Jack had not yet come out to his mother and when she knocked on the door, Will tried to push him to open it, but Jack resisted and Will wound up practically wheel barreling Jack by sliding his feet across the floor.
And then the infamous episode where Jack, Will and Grace all felt up each others boobs until they all had a hand on each of the others (how they managed that straight faced, I'll never know) And Grace bought a water bra which of course was leaking by the episode's end.
Again, I didn't watch the show in the later seasons (not because of the show itself so much as- I no longer had access to TV at that time in my life... hooray for streaming services now!) so I don't know if it held up. But the 1st season was glorious.
I'll probably work my way through all the old shows before I watch the latest season. But I am now more interested than I was when I first heard the announcement. It's a different world now. Jack and Will could get married now (not to each other- but they could each get married now if they wanted)

Will & Grace is returning? Now TV has my attention again. Crazy.

I'm wary, but cautiously optimistic. It's a whole different world than it was in 2006, before Twitter, before Facebook, before marriage. But I really hope this works. Watching old episodes it still holds up well, and they all have fantastic chemistry.

I have a soft spot for Eric McCormick. He's Canadian, was in Lonesome Dove as the baddie and I loved him, and he's returned home to do some local productions, which was both a bit of a thrill plus felt nice that he valued our theatre scene enough to return to it.

I'm not interested in watching the revamp, but I have been revisiting the show now that it's on Hulu.
Most of it holds up, but I'm finding some of the writing for Eric McCormack kinda stilted and unfunny. I still like the Will character a lot, but I'm finding some of the puns and word play more irritating than I remembered.
But the overall show is still funny and the cast had great chemistry. I'm embarrassed to admit how many hours I've already spent revisiting this since they put it on Hulu.

I can't WAIT to watch it tomorrow.
I also love Eric M. Nowadays, it's not AS big of a deal but, lo those many years ago, it was actually a brave thing for a straight guy to play a gay character.

The full series is also On Demand on Comcast. I had to look for it because I was wondering why WE stopped airing the Saturday reruns.
I think the series took a hard dive around the time of Grace and Leo's marital problems, so I haven't seen the last couple of seasons. I know there were some unnecessary guest spots by Alec Baldwin, Jeff Goldblum and Britney Spears. I liked a lot of their celebrity guest stars (McCauley Culkin, Matt Damon, even Madonna and Demi Moore) but it got to be way too much.
I'm excited about the revamp though, and the fact that they are fixing some of the things that didn't work in the final seasons when the original show was running out of steam.

I'm having so much fun re-watching this show! I'm still in the second season, so if there is a downturn to the show, I haven't gotten there yet. I had a very specific memory of Jack and Gregory Hines putting spoons on their noses- but could not remember the context at all and so was eagerly awaiting that episode coming up. What I had completely forgotten was that Gregory Hines was Will's boss and also Grace's love interest for a time and so there were many more episodes with him besides the spoon-nose one that seared itself so firmly in my brain. That man was a national treasure and fit right in with the rest of the cast's chemistry and wit. By the time I finally got to the episode I'd been waiting for, it all made perfect sense for Mr. Hines to walk in unannounced to Will's apartment, cook dinner for Karen and Jack and then wind up playing 'anything you can do, I can do better' with Jack.
Speaking of national treasures- Debbie Reynolds as Grace's mom was an absolute gem!
As I've been watching, I started remembering that when I first watched the show, I started feeling like Jack and Karen's cattiness was a bit excessive- and bordering on mean. But now, after 20 years of subjecting myself to multiple Breaking Bad marathons, Red Weddings and Dean!Girl v. Sam!Girl Battle Royals, Jack and Karen come off as completely lovely people.
