I was never a huge fan of the show, as I thought of it like the filler that aired between the real comedy superpowers of Friends and Seinfeld, but I'll tune it tonight. The cast did have really good chemistry and the nostalgia factor is high.

There was a LOT of shoehorning in 2017 (Facebook! Grindr! Fake News!), but it was cute. The retcon... fine. But I enjoyed it. And they all have such sparkling chemistry.
Plus, a Gay Kiss. No Network Television! In 2017! We HAVE come a long way, baby!

I also hope they got the Trump stuff out of their system because I have enough of that in real life. It felt like they were warming up for the season. I'll keep watching. My goodness, all the makeup tho! Eric McCormack is aging well, he doesn't need the 4 pounds of foundation and the mascara. He'd look better without it.

Yeah, I felt like they were trying to shoehorn in as many Trump jokes as possible. I hope that calms down. I also felt like at times the actors were hamming it up a bit. Turning it up to 11 so to speak.
I don't mind the retcon because I wasn't too keen on the way the original series ended anyway.
But overall it was really fun and I'm glad they're doing this season.

I did not watch the original through to the bitter end but I did enjoy parts of the old show immensely. This felt off to me. Their jokes were OK but the timing or delivery seemed to not hit like a good show usually does. I could chalk it up to rust on their part and will give it another few shows before I decide. At first I was thinking they had not aged much, but then when I looked at it on HD they all look like they have had some work done.

Perfect description. It felt like they were trying to do too much in one show. Every single line of dialogue was some sort of joke, or Trump slam or whatever. The show was at its best when there was a silly specific major story and then some great one-liners were part of it. This episode was just a mish mash of stuff. Kinda bummed me out because I love this show and am very excited it's back. I hope they calm down.

You guys have summed up my feelings well: Too much, calm down, schtick-y, etc. But I'll definitely stick with it for a while because I loved (and still do, via LOGO) the original series so much. They can do this, I know they can!

They can do this, I know they can! I'm having a hard time with the concept of divorcing Harry Connick, jr. I have a tremendous soft spot for him. Agree with Mulva that y'all have summed it up well. I will add that I think everyone has had just a little too much Botox, and I want to see those great facial expressions!

The Dolt45 jokes were indeed heavy handed, but I liked Karen's "homage" to KA Conjob kneeling on the couch...

The jokes were very heavy-handed, but I could appreciate them to some extent. However, I do believe this is just them just airing out the ol' closet to play a little catch-up for the fans and to give some zingers on the bullshit we're all having to deal with as a nation. I bet we'll get a lot more from Karen specifically with her being chummy with the Trumps, but I hope she reserves it for just Grace to irritate her in the traditional Karen way.
