I don't remember the name of the episode, but it was the last one they filmed in Vancouver, so I guess that would have been the last aired episode of the fifth season. It was about that little boy who almost got shot during a chess match. I was one of the people in the crowd watching him play chess.

That's so cool! Isn't that the one where they did a Q&A with the cast afterwards? Interesting that Duchovny didn't stick around...

They did the Q&A in the stadium before the shooting, IIRC. (This was, like in 1998, so I'm not sure.) Everyone in the audience was just shouting out questions, it wasn't very structured.
At the end they gave out bumper stickers with alien faces on them to some of the extras, which my sister and her friend promptly started catfighting over. Good times, good times.

I remember that day! I wanted to go down and be an extra even though I didn't watch the show at that point, but I was busy with school or something.

Maybe he was scared of all those angry fans who still didn't realize that his "rains all the time" comment was a joke, set up by Conen O' Brian. Maybe not though. As a newer Xfiles fan, I remember being quite shocked when I began reading articles and fan experiences from back in the day. And I have read far too many accounts of DD being a douchebag for me not to believe that it must have been true. At least to some extent. It seems to me that he must have mellowed out quite a bit from those days. Because all the recent interviews and fan encounters I have read have come across as nothing but positive. It seems he has come to some kind of peace with his whole Xfiles experience and has accepted that to some degree he will always be known as Mulder. However, Gillian Anderson still seems to have some major issues going on. I like G and think she is quite an actor, but the "poor little old me", victim of big bad Hollywood act isn't doing her any favors. [article]

The link brings up an article about Martha Stewart. And "back in the day" was a scary, scary time. I remember getting bitched out on a message board because I dared to ask if it was true Tea Leoni had a boob job. (She did.) They called me a troll and asked if I kicked puppies for fun.

HA! So it does. Give me a minute to figure it out and I will edit my post. I am new to posting links.
And I can relate to the whole psycho fan thing. On both sides I have seen way too much craziness.
{edited to say, I think I got the link posted correctly now. What do you think of this article? I am interested to know .)

Eh. I certainly believe she never had any interest in being on TV, and would probably prefer not to do TV again. However, I don't think she isn't grateful for what the show brought her, and I'm sure there are people out there who will use this interview as proof that she hates the fans and is a super-bitch, but it reads more that she got burnt out from the stresses of working 15+ hour days in the middle of nowhere with a small cast and crew. And that's completely understandable to me.
I still like her as an actress, but if she wants to take some time off to spend with her family and only do projects that interest her, more power to her. It sounds like she'll come back for the movie, if there will be one, and I think that's great.

She is crazy bad at interviews, but that doesn't make me like her any less. She's obviously a spaz who says things the wrong way a lot and if anything that just endears her to me more.

Thanks for the feedback. Are you also this understandable about DD and the negative things he used to say about the Xfiles? And if not, then why not?
I am endlessly curious about what caused this rift between GA and DD fans.
