The reason a lot of people never get sober is because of the guilt they feel from the shit they did when they were drunk. It's like 'I feel so fucking guilty for what I did, I'll drink some more to get rid of the guilt.' It's a sick vicious cycle.

That's for sure. I was wondering when they were going to explain that this was all a psychological ploy, that Jes and Keira Knightley's character didn't want to compete on the field so they were competing for what was apparently the only heterosexual man in Hounslow who understood football. I'm not sure I'd read too much into his living in England. All internationally successful Irish actors end up in America or England simply because they don't have a choice - the tiny Irish film industry is focused on indies with such small budgets that appearing in one would amount to unpaid volunteer work...

Yes, I DO know that Ireland is not considered the UK - but as you stated above, that's not where he's working. I don't see why you need to call him out specifically as an Irish actor, unless there's some reason to segregate him as such.

Actually he hasn't been working in the UK much recently: The Tudors is mostly filmed in Ireland and his last film mostly shot in the UK was Match Point five years ago.

I felt the need to mark him as an Irish actor because I got the impression (apparently incorrectly) that you were labeling him as a Brit actor. And so what? If I labeled Kate Winslet as an American I wouldn't be surprised if a British poster corrected me - and rightly so. I see nothing harmful about people being patriotically protective about their actors.

Poor guy. I really feel for him. I've followed his career since the Velvet Goldmine/Gormenghast days and he undoubtedly seems very tormented. It's such a shame, I find him so mesmerising on screen. I hope he has genuine people to care for him

So sad. I hope he doesn't give up on trying to stay sober. I knew a man who went to treatment 45 times before it finally took.

He's signed on to play Dracula in an upcoming NBC series.

NBC has given the green light to Dracula, a drama series based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, with Tudors alum Jonathan Rhys Meyers tapped to play the titular bloodsucker.

The 10-episode show centers on the iconic vampire as he relocates to London in hopes of wreaking havoc on the Victorian society that centuries ago “ruined his life.” However, his quest for revenge hits a snag when he falls for a woman who appears to be the second coming of his long-deceased wife.

“It is a timeless tale with relevant, surprising twists and turns [and] the exquisite Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the marquee role,” Universal Television Executive Vice President Bela Bajaria said Tuesday in a statement.
