Man, I thought Elvis was a big fat MEH. My videocassette unexpectedly ran out of tape ten minutes before the end, but I was kinda glad--the lip-synching in the final number was awful.

However, Match Point is getting some good buzz at Cannes, according to Roger Ebert.

(In other news, I was hauling my mom's rotting newspaper collection to the dump a few days ago, and on one random grab, uncovered a TV directory circa 2001 with Jonny in Gormenghast on the cover. I chucked it, of course, but it was a nice little surprise.)

I didn't even bother to watch Elvis. First of all, they scheduled it opposite the ABC shows on Sunday and Wednesday, which are the only TV shows I bother to watch anymore. Second, I'm just not that interested in Elvis. I love some of his music, but I'm disgusted by the big fat wine skin he became in his later life. I was pretty sure I'd spend the entire movie pissed off about how much they obscured JRM's hotness to make him look like Elvis. So, I'm glad people aren't raving about the movie here.

I didn't watch Elvis because for some reason every time I saw a commerical for that movie, "The Ballad of Maxwell Demon" kept getting stuck inside my head.

I'm going to rave. Sorry Colette. But my praise is more for JRM. I'm not an Elvis fan, so I don't know if he nailed it or not. But JRM really is a phenomenal talent, imo. The lip-synching and dancing must have been difficult and he seemed so natural. He also has such a smoldering, sensual quality that is very compelling. He's such a sexy little man, I'd love to keep him in my pocket. I have Velvet Goldmine in my Netflix queue.

Cameron was great, too.

Does anybody know if he went to rehab recently? I just read that Matthew Perry offered to sponsor both Joaquin Phoenix and Jonathan when they get out of Promises.

It wouldn't surprise me. It just surprises me that I haven't heard about it before.

I would have never thought there could be any connection between JRM and Matthew Perry. Heh.

I just finished watching Bend it Like Beckham. I think he's so lovely in that film. I even like the girly run! My favorite parts are at the end, when he and Parminder Nagra kiss at the airport. They do that adorable nose rub thing and then he does this look where he bites his lip and gives the slow blink--love it! And I love the closing credits where the football hits him in the face and he seems to shake it off, but no--he just doubles over! Great stuff.

He seems crazy as hell, but I lurve him for it.

Oh, I love him. He's a really pretty guy. Just wow. I saw him on that Elvis miniseries and he was brilliant at it! He's got an eccentricity to him...that I like.

bizarre enough, I look kind of like his girlfriend. Although, I'm about 5 years older than her.

Did anybody catch the interview with him in Sunday's New York Times? And was it just me, or did he come off as incredibly pompous and, well, a bit of a jerk? It pained me to see that.
