Thanks, kostgard and Smee. I'm sure those are the main issues, but it still sux.
Yeah, now I remember they DID just keep showing the same eps over and over again toward the end. Or did they have Prince Of Space on some sort of continuous loop? Not that I wouldn't be thrilled to wake up every other Saturday morning to see it. Sigh.
I tried ordering some of *those* copies from EBay a couple of years ago, and they were so unwatchable that I sent them back. The DVD sets are better than nothing, but just seem kind of sterile and lacking the charm of the series, if that makes sense?
Am I the only one who liked Mike better than Joel?

I definitely like Mike better too. Joel had more of a goofy delivery, while Mike was more straight-up snarky, which I like better.
And I suppose the real litmus test is that I've already downloaded a few Rifftrax and Netflixed the Film Crew DVDs and I haven't even bothered to go to Cinematic Titanic's website.

Plus, Michael Nelson iiiiiiiiis Lord of the Daaaaance!!! ...."Did the other one die?" "Um, no....duhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduh...." That will never not make me pee myself.

Am I the only one who liked Mike better than Joel? No, you're definitely not. I'm sure my preference for Mike is due partly to my having discovered MST3K when Mike was host, but I also feel that the show hit its peak during his tenure. With Joel, the show's pace was generally slower and his style was so laid back I swear he was stoned sometimes. Mike and the Bots got out more and funnier (for my taste) riffs. He also has a bigger face than Joel. ("A rolled roast... a baron of beef of a face!" -Kevin Murphy)

I preferred Mike too. He was hotter and funnier. Yeah, I am pretty shallow.

I definitely prefer Mike. Joel had a tendency to make the same jokes over and over, Mike made an effort to have a wide variety of references (his LOTR and Doctor Who jokes always make my heart flutter!).

It was only after seeing the LOTR movies that I noticed how many Tolkien references were made on the show. There are a few gaps in my geek lore knowledge, apparently. I did get the more obscure cultural references though.. "Mama, Diane Arbus wants to take my picture..." and the reference to Aristophanes in "The Screaming Skull".
I started watching in the Joel era, and I did like his "stoner den mother" relationship he had with the 'bots. Still, Mike's delivery was a lot sharper, and they seemed to launch into some really great riffing, like the Rowsdower TV Show pitch during the closing credits of "The Final Sacrifice".

Joel was better, I hate all you poopypants people! He's probably my fav because I really needed MST at that time to escape from some crap in my life. All alone on Turkey Day 92 was easier with Joel there.

Just not nearly as much. Love the phrase "stoner den mother", Malle Babbe. That's just a perfect description.

Has anyone purchased DVD's from CheesyFlix.com? They sell individual episodes as well as season compilations on DVD, but I don't know if they are reliable or not. Here's the site: CheesyFlix.com
