Oh good. There were other chefs that I had hoped would beat CJ at this point, but this was one time I'm happy to hear CJ won. John was just so obnoxious and seemed to have lost his mind at the end.

This is petty, but what bugged me most about him was the stupid way he wore his glasses on his forehead. He has a very punchable face.

Wah! I really liked John. Maybe it was his goofy smile. He seemed to have come through a heavy time in his life more or less unscathed... and let's be realistic, that chick served BAD, turned scallops to a panel of expert judges. Why does she get another chance? That's ridiculous to me. People get kicked off for much less. CJ, otoh, seemed like a maniac "must beat John at all costs." Dude, just cook & lay off the rivalries. He was a lot more distracting to me.

I didn't think John was more than mildly annoying and a major know-it-all until a) he decided he had discovered Anthony Bourdain and b) his mildly insane pickle freak out* at the very end. Going to the judges with a jar of pickles just to stick it to her? WTF?
*Pickle Freak Out=excellent name for a band.

He also had a stupid excuse for his unevenly cooked risotto, blaming the cookware for it. And we all know that making bad risotto is the kiss of death on this show.

I don't understand the door thing, but how is his risotto any different than any other chef's excuse on a dish? Or CJ asking about that dessert? Or Josh never seasoning pork--his lauded specialty--and not going home while Bart more or less did the same but was eliminated? Sometimes the elims just don't make sense. To me, anyway.
What I like about this show is how passionate and talented everyone is overall, and the shit-talking and wildness. After reading Kitchen Confidential, I was surprised that Bourdain emerged alive at all; they partied hard back then. Maybe I just brushed off John's actions to an older guy in a young person's competition with a ton of insecurities. I'm still flummoxed about the scallops. I don't mind liking him by myself though.
Now I'll root for Kristen & Brooke. It would be cool for another woman to win.

bklynred, do you ever read Tom's blog (it's on the Bravo site)? I find that that frequently explains things I wonder about, although I haven't read it this season.

Is it wrong that I think I'm starting to like Stefan? I hated him so much the first time around. But he's been funny and even charming a time or two this season!
Maybe John's douchebaggery made Stefan look good. Now if we can just get Josie's loud ass out of there...

I starting warming to Stefan towards the end of his original season. He filled the entertaining foreign guy void for me after Fabio got eliminated.
I'm rooting for Kristen too, she works at a restaurant here (though of course it's not one I can afford) so I feel like I should root for the local girl. It helps that she's awesome.
