I think the reasoning is that many of the Spanish aren't monarchists, per se, but are instead Juan Carlistas - that is, supporters of the current king because of his role in establishing and guaranteeing democracy in Spain in the late 1970s/early 1980s. The feeling is that Felipe doesn't attract that sort of loyalty, and that after Juan Carlos' death, Spain will revert to a republic.

Why Leonar and not Leonara? Leonar's a pretty name, though. In Spanish, it's either Leonor. Eleonor or Eleonora (but the latter is borrowed from Italian). I think the traditional form is Leonor, and there have been some Spanish queens with that name.

I'm not a Letizia fan, but Leonar is is one of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen.

I totally agree! She is precious. I have to admit her mother's genes probably added to the beauty...I just hope her disposition is like her grandmother, Queen Sofia.
