I felt like Donna never brought anything substantial to the show. Even with it was about her issues, like her learning disorder, it was always about how everyone else reacted to it.
If you list all the crap that happened to Kelly on the show, it's hard to believe people watched it willingly. It was terribly soapy, but damn if those first seasons didn't hook me. I stopped watching after the first college year.
Team Brenda all the way.

I stopped watching after the first college year- isn't that when people started leaving? I never could get into the new characters. And good Lord how I hated Claire.

By senior year of college, it had all tanked so badly. I held on to the bitter end, but those last few years--and characters (Noah? LawyerBoy? Gina? Barf)--were vile and the story arcs were so abysmal.
And it's totally clear that Donna started off as a throwaway character on a show that no one, including the producers, would be a hit or last more than a season. The fact that they ended with Donna and David's wedding (and called it "the Penultimate" no less) was a joke considering how the series began. The whole thing turned into such a giant cock-up; everyone was afraid to let the characters be actual characters.

I feel so much better reading this. I thought I was the only one who would admit to watching to the end, even though the plots were hollow parodies of normal t.v. by that point.

Those were the seasons I was recapping, too. Odious.

It always looked like it was going to melt. She was prettier than Donna (most people are), but in some ways Claire's face was just as strange.

I think it was at the old Fametracker, where someone pointed out that on the original 90210, whenever a male character is "good", he wears a white t-shirt. Whenever he starts doing drugs or other "bad" things, he wears a grey t-shirt. Watch for it - it's amusing. I remember noticing it on both Dylan and David.

I'm another "stopped watching after the first college year" viewer. I did tune in from time to time but could never get into those new characters they brought in, not even Valerie though many fans seemed to love her. I loved Brenda as she was the only one who was somewhat interesting and not one-dimensional. Then again, the show managed to be fun for those first few seasons which is more than can be said most of today's shows IMO.

I stopped watching when Daniel Drennan stopped recapping. I kept on watching the awful years just so I could read his hilarious recaps. Ah, good times.
