She better change her expression come Oscar time when Meryl Streep and maybe Helen Mirren or Sigourney Weaver beats her out of another award in February.

Anybody else see Paula Abdul being interviewed on the post-show on E!?
She was slurring her words like crazy and couldn't piece together any of her thoughts. Samantha Harris and the other dude were being quite nice and letting Paula talk, but they also had a time limit and towards the end of the interview seemed to be getting kind of antsy. Then they threw it back to Giuliana or went to a commercial or something, and you just hear Paula start to babble some more and then quickly fade out. It was really, really weird. I hope Paula is OK, because I think she's a genuinely nice and caring person. I just think she needs to back off the meds a little bit, or maybe she was mixing alcohol with her meds? Either way, wow.

I loved the thank you speech from that guy who won for My Name Is Earl. He's the one who said he didn't want to thank people so he named people he did not thank for this award. Like his social studies teacher who always told him to shut up and sit down or his boss on Step By Step who made him scrape gum off a producer's shoes. Heh. I loved how he included God in his speech - it was something like, "Yeah, you're probably responsible for some of this, but you took away my hair and that ain't cool, man."

My favorite moment that wasn't Office or Stewart/Colbert related was when the director of the Emmys won for directing the Oscars and he kept calling camera changes throughout his speech.

I'm a little late to be weighing in, but I've been out of town, so...
The beginning of the show was great (Conan's opening montage and song-and-dance) and the end of the show was great (24 and "The Office" winning) but the rest of the show kind of sucked. Conan's (and Bob Newhart's) little skits got more and more hurried as they started to realize they were going to run out of time. Too bad, I liked seeing more of Conan's irreverent humor at a time when I can remain fully conscious.
Steve Carell was robbed. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that they chose people who had won/been nominated for the majority of the words, but Steve was supposed to be the one sure thing. Feh.
I still can't get over the fact that Colbert lost to fucking BARRY MANILOW. I was sort of expecting Conan to take that award. I wonder if the four comedians split the vote and the "Copacabana guy" ended up taking it?
They need to overhaul these awards in a big way. Like... separating comedians from Barry Manilow. And ensuring that people under the age of 72 vote.

The problem with the Manilow thing is that the category combines one-off specials and regular series. For it to be fair they need to seperate the specials and the series. They're completely different things and in no way should the hosts of late-night talk shows (O'Brien, Letterman, & Colbert) be competing in the same category with the host of an awards show (Jackman) and a singer on a PBS special (Manilow.) Even if the I Lost to Barry Manilow jokes are funny (Letterman got a lot of mileage out of it last night on his show.)

Exactly. I didn't see Manilow's special, and for all I know it could have knocked my socks off. But judging that against three late-night TV hosts and Hugh Jackman hosting the Tonys is apples and oranges. I also don't get why Outstanding Miniseries and Outstanding Made-for-Television Movie are separate, but the actors and actresses in them get lumped into one category.

I've never understood that either. But then I don't care as much about them because the only ones that ever get nominated for those awards anymore are on Showtime & HBO, neither of which I have. That's also why I've always been very much anti-The Sopranos. Their dearth of nominations this year thrilled me.

I believe they share the same category because Manilow does only one show, for instance, but Stewart, Colbert, Letterman, et al only send in one episode's worth of tape as well. They're not nominated for the entire season, rather for what they think is representative of their season. That said, it's still a tough call. But Colbert's best line was somewhat lost -- "Singing and dancing isn't performing!!!"
