God I found that "fat" joke so dense and annoying. In fact I found all the Sarah Silverman dense, annoying and spectacularly boring and unfunny.
Oh and once again absolutely no A-list Hollywood in the audience or coming up to present...not even B-list Hollywood. Hollywood just skipped the whole thing. This award show dead! Gone are the days Bobby DeNiro was just as likely to be seen randomly popping up suddenly at the VMAs as Puff Daddy. Actors realise thi is not the "young, hip, popular with the kids" show anymore. Noone out there cares about this show anymore...so accordingly they don't care either.
And then Al Gore! WTF? Sorry Al but only Bill Clinton might have been able to pull of that shit. He wore his little black suit with no tie and the gel in the hair trying to look cool for the kids but he still came off as stiff as cardboard and sounding like a politician at some rally. Kudos for him talking about the environment. I would much rather his wooden ass to say something rather than not. More than GW would do. Because....hold it...."George Bush doesn't care about the environment" [/end deadpan Kanye]
ETA: Typo thetans...Tom Cruise! Help me, Tom Cruise!

This show gets an A+ from me for letting the D play.
It's coming out in a few weeks.
I think they had some good ideas. It's cool that they had the Racontours as sort of a house band, and the video screens that practically wrapped around the entire place were neat. I agree they wasted Jack Black though.
How on Earth did "When September Ends" not sweep the awards this year? Did the people who nominate and vote actually watch it? It's easily the most powerful video I've seen since "Jeremy."

I must be too old as well - I didn't know who half the nominees were.
I did like that OK Go performance. I may have to download that song.

That's cause that song sucks. Worst, most irritating song EVER. Actually, maybe that's why it should have won . What these kids like is beyond me. (shaking my old lady fist, thinking of "Rich Girl" by Gwen Stefani) But I'm thirty so I'm definitely past the suggested age group for MTV anyway. Another thing: Why was Al Gore on this thing? He's like the incredibly boring uncle who doesn't know he's too old to hang out with anyone under 40.

Last year's VMA were better. Much much better. Good God! the gradient of depreciation of this VMA shit is just that epic in proportions! That whole Puffy-Kanye-Jamie shit was annoying but who would have thought that MTV could and WOULD be even lamer than that!!! Heh heh! In VMAs of the past at least there was one performance that was standout and entertaining. This was more or less unspectacular mostly and with some parts just being pure shit. Last year I never would have thought a year later the "Diddyfest" would look like pure magic next to the lame fucking piss that was to be the VMAs 2006. God! WTF? ?? Such a waste of time. And absolutely noone from Hollywood showed up.....and then we had some dweeb who was only introduced as "head of the board" and was ugly and BORING!! with absolutley nothing to say except oh, his mommy said abc and he snowboards and he would like to be on jackass.... come on!!!! WASTE!! go home to your mother. And THEN best they could do after that mess was Al Gore.....hahahhahahahhahaaaaah! This show is such a JOKE! Eta: shoutout to NSync's 2001 Pop performance - I caught it recently and thought - wow, performers making the damn effort to do a good job and entertain with a well planned out and executed dance performance on the VMAs- aint seen that in YEARS! Now they have McDweeby Boring Pants "Head Of The Board" on stage muttering about some boring bullshit because there's nothing else. Hahaha! DIE MTV! JUST DIE!!!!! and take the pissing Jackass Fuckjobs with you with their bedwetting until they were 14 asses!

I FF'd through almost the entire thing. The only highlights were Sarah Silverman's Paris Hilton bit , the Killers performance, and seeing Christina Aguilera and her hubby displaying a mature and healthy relationship (polar opposite of Britney and KFed). Altogether this added up to about 12 minutes out of 3-1/2 hours.

I didn't get Beyonce's performance at all. The Mr. and Mrs. Smith rip off was lame, but i loved the coat. I guess her dancing was terrible (In my opinion) and the outfit was not flattering at all.
So I'm 22, and yeah, I'm old I guess. Because like you guys I had no idea who half the people were. Video of the Year band had my scratching my head, and all the rock bands looked silly. Why is their hair like that? Didn't they learn anything from Flock o Seagulls? And Why are they wearing girl pants? Damn kids and their stupid trends. There was much fist shaking in my dorm room during this thing.

I didn't watch this, but got a laugh out of it anyway from our local news anchor -
They were talking about the VMAs over footage of Fergie parading down the red carpet in short shorts, when the female anchor muttered, "Oh, how embarassing..." then she waiting for a looooong pause before she added "I showed up in the exact same outfit."
I really wish she hadn't added the last part because the "Oh, how embarassing" reaction to Fergie's "singing" was funny enough and she became my new best friend during that pause.
