I heard a commercial for a rerun being shown on TV tonight, and I thought, man, I really miss Friends. The thing is that I don't think that Friends was a spectacularly good show, and it was completely unbelievable, but there I was looking forward to it every Thursday night. Why?

Aw, I loved Friends back in its heyday--seasons 1-5 were the BEST. I really couldn't watch the show in its last season, after it jumped the shark and started to rival Will & Grace in terms of stuntcasting, but if I see a rerun from the early years, I will undoubtedly watch it.

The season after 9/11 when Chandler and Monica were carrying on with their covert relationship was hilarious. The episode where Joey was caught looking at her naked picture while eating from a chicken bucket is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I'm Monica...and I'm disgusting...
I agree about it not being the best show, but there was definitely something engaging about it. I, too, have all 10 seasons on DVD, and if I can't find anything on TV to watch, I'll occasionally put a Friend's DVD in. I can still watch rerun after rerun and really enjoy it.

"He takes naked pictures, then he eats chicken, and he looks at 'em!"
Awesome.

Yeah, "Friends" was cute. It was just a fun way to pass the time. Groundbreaking? Not really. Funny all the time? Heavens, no. Realistic? Oh, please.
By the way, the episode with the "I'm Monica, I'm disgusting" was easily one of my favorite episodes ever.
And the episode with the Hanukah Armadillo was awesome too. Especially with Superman flying all the Jews out of Egypt. And the use of "Tradition" from Fiddler on the Roof equals awesome.

I was really into Ross and Rachel until she got pregnant and I thought that the Emma storyline was done so poorly that I never could believe that they would actually get back together. They did not even seem to like each other at that point.

I like this show, too. The last seasons were not very good with the exception of the Brad Pitt Thanksgiving episode. I laugh every time I watch it. Other favorites are the one where Monica and Rachel play the trivia game against Joey and Chandler, the one where Phoebe tries to seduce Chandler so he admits he's sleeping with Monica, and the one with the letter that Rachel writes and ends with them fighting (Y-O-U apostrophe R-E is you are! Y-O-U-R is your! It was 18 pages. Front and back!). And of course the Thanksgiving episode where Rachel makes the triffle.

While it wasn't the funniest sitcom ever, it does hold up amazingly well in reruns unlike Seinfeld.
I am still pissed that Friends only won one Emmy for best sitcom. It was always funnier than Will & Grace, Everybody Loves Raymond and Frazier. Also, David Schwimmer should have won an Emmy for playing Ross. He was hysterical. I still yell "Pivot" whenever I have to move furniture.
Edited to add:
That is my favorite Thanksgiving episode. When Ross squeaks out "It tastes like feet", I laugh so hard I snort.
