My friends and I snark about old Lifetime(tm) made-for-TV movies starring ex-Charlie's Angels, ex-Little House actresses, or Patty Duke. Inevitably, the woman is in dire jeopardy and is saved, or saves herself, from stalking, abuse, disease, whatever.
Apparently, the crappy Lifetime(tm) movies aren't even what they used to be. Last night, I had the misfortune to see part of a Nora Roberts story called Blue Smoke. Wow. Baaaaad. Bad acting, writing, camera work, editing -- you name it. A highschool project would have resulted in more entertainment value.
And Alicia Witt makes Britney look like Helen Mirren.

My favorite LifeTime movie is the Meredith Baxter-Burney one. I watch it every time it's on.
My 2nd fave is the one with Jo from Facts of Life. The one where she gets stabbed by her abusive husband because the cops don't help her.

I used to scoff at Lifetime movies, but once while visiting a friend who was watching a move on Lifetime, I got completely sucked in. It was Video Voyeur: The Susan Wilson Story with Angie Harmon.

For a while there in the 90s, NBC was running an "NBC Monday Night Movie" and that was where most of my favorites were from---you know, all the good Tori Spelling ones (best being where she's kniffed to death by Kelly Martin) and all the ones with DJ Tanner and Fred Savage. Or even Hilary Swank working cheek to cheek with Zach Morris to investigate Six's death.
They still do something that aren't bad. There was one from two years ago called Speak that was really really good about a girl who'd been date-raped and ostracized by her classmates. The Odd Girl Out one was pretty well done too.
However, "Fat Like Me" which aired recently was an obomination.
You mean, A Woman Scorned? Yep, that one is great.

I loved the one with DJ Tanner and Fred Savage! "If I can't have you, nobody's GONNA". Yes, "gonna".
My favourites though? "Mother, May I Sleep With Danger" and "Coed Call Girl", both starring none other than Tori Spelling!
They're usually on "W" in Canada (the womens' network), which I like to call "V" (The Victims' Network).

IIRC, there's a "Lifetime Movie Title Generator" somewhere out there in the ether. HubNoir and I are very fond of "Mother May I Sleep With Danger," but our fave title is "Baby Monitor: Sound of Fear."

One of my faves was:
LEGACY OF SIN: THE WILLIAM COIT STORY
It starred Tyne Daly as a woman who kills her husbands, and Neil Patrick Harris as her son who just got married, and becomes suspicious of her.
I also really enjoyed the Meredith Baxter-Birney/Betty Broderick one, and the Angie Harmon one.
I watched the first two Nora Roberts, but couldn't get into last night's at all.

I cannot get enough of the teen pregnancy/promiscuity movies, particularly Fifteen and Pregnant, She's Too Young (about the dangers of indiscriminate oral), and most recently, Too Young to Be a Dad, starring the son from Little Miss Sunshine.

She's Too Young was great, because the whole time I was trying to remind myself that Marcia Gay Harden had just won an Oscar. Those skanky little girls were high-larious too.

There's a really good (and by "good" I mean horrible) one with Jane Krakowski and Mercedes Ruhl where a girl has a secret baby and her mom pretends it's her sister and at the end she gives it to Jane Krakowski because she can't have a baby. It's just like "Wha?" So odd. But I watched it so what does that say about me?
