I believe that they did have to put Big Si to sleep when he contacted TB. That is the only Meerkat I am aware of that was on the show.
I do realize that they can't interfere with nature but I sincerely think that they would have saved Flower if they could.
At least we will have a Flower movie next year. And I am thinking of adopting a couple of ferrets and naming one of them Flower. Yes I am a dork.

Flower would be an excellent name for a ferret.

Oh poor Flower. The Matriarch. Has anyone stepped in to take her place or are they all wandering around without her? I love this show and yet can't watch it.
I stopped watching wildlife shows. I once saw a baby tiger slowly starve to death because he cut his paw and could not follow his mom. The crew filmed it, and then decided to call a vet. Too late. There is no excuse for that. To this day that episode haunts me. You can't "unsee" some things. I stopped watching after that one.

Leenerbups, Flowers daughter Rocket Dog is the new leader of the Whiskers. Considering the Whiskers clan has risen to about 50 members, she has some pretty large shoes to fill following in her mothers footsteps. Zaphod, Flowers partner, has left the Whiskers and is now a roving male. He will be missed as well but at least he is still alive.
I will not spoil, but the season does get worse apparently.
I do not watch other nature shows as I get too upset, but those damn Meerkats have me hooked.

Thanks for the explanation, kostgard. Though I think "letting nature happen and not interferring" can be damn cruel, as in this situation. Like Leenerbups said: Poor baby tiger, BTW. This is why I just can't watch nature/pet rescue shows at all.

I watched this show for the first time last weekend, when they were airing catch up episodes and unfortunately my first episode featured Flower's death. I barely knew this meerkat and I cried. I got my nerve to watch the show again this morning and ended up watching Mozart's sad tale. Poor Mozart, that poor girl just couldn't catch a break. I don't know if I can steel myself to watch another episode.

K. Barrett's avatar, title and sig is the best. Every time I see it on the board I think of our Flower.
Bumping to see what is going on. I watched Flower's last episode while visiting my family. My brothers had to leave the room and my mom and dad were crying. It's the show you want to watch and it's hard to watch. But it gives people an appreciation of nature and how hard wildlife struggles to live, then you add in what we humans contribute to make it even harder, maybe it will make people think.
