Patinkin is just so moody. He dropped out of Chicago Hope when it was struggling against ER and could have used the talent - Gibson's probably not surprised.
I hope they kill him off. He comes across as both smug and tortured all the time. There are few actors out there whose show can't go on without them.

I thought it was very clever this week how a lot of the writing seemed to be talking about Patinkin leaving and not just Gideon. Probably their way of getting some not-so-subtle digs in.
I'm looking forward to Joe Mantegna starting too.

Yeah, the whole, "I think we're going to be just fine without Gideon" was a great little smackdown to the quitter.

I hope in Patinkin's absence, the guy who plays Hotch gets more screen time. He's so pretty. I know they need an older male, and that's why there are bringing in Mantegna.

I didn't think it was that clever -- the digs were way too over the top and obvious to anyone who knew what had happened with Mandy. The "guest lecture" comment -- it was all, "Ha, ha, no guest starring for you, Patinkin!" Way to bludgeon me on the head to make a point! I think that MP handled the situation poorly, very poorly, but I have to say that I was less than impressed with the way the producers/showrunner (Ed Bernero) and some of the cast members (Shemar Moore) reacted. Everybody just came off as very childish. Patinkin, Moore, Bernero -- all of them.

I agree, it was over the top (I think I said 'not so subtle'), but lets face it, probably 90% of the viewing audience is completely oblivious to what happened behind the scenes. Unless you're like us and on the net a lot, etc. this didn't get a lot of press (ie the cover of the Enquirer! lol)

I guess I just thought that since it was hot Hollywood gossip for a second thereā¦! It was mentioned in Entertainment Weekly, wasn't it? I remember a number of gossip columnists clucking their tongues and going, "Oh, Mandy, not again!" But a lot of people probably don't pay attention to that. I feel conflicted. I was one of the few who liked Gideon. But I hated the way Mandy Patinkin dealt with the situation. What is his problem, anyway? Does he just like being a pain in everybody's ass?

Mr Noir thinks he's too serious, but that's fine with me. And I can imagine a powerful, brilliant older woman to replace Mandy, too. It would be a nice change of pace. Too much young-pretty on the team for me: like most TV shows, this one seems to think women who look older than 30 don't exist. How many new eps have aired this season? I've lost track of the network shows I used to watch.

I liked Gideon, too. I can understand the cast and tptb wanting to get a little of theirs back, though. It might be petty and a tad unprofessional to some, but I've heard of worse things being done to the characters of prima donna actors/actresses who've pissed off cast and crew. It happens.

Yeah, at least he didn't get "McLean Stevenson-ed".
I would have liked a woman to replace Gideon as well, someone older and forthright, without being the typical "bitch". Maybe Tyne Daly or someone like that.
