I wonder if they'd be allowed to say something like "Something to suck on for landing, sir" on the broadcast, though. Iceland sent a song in the '80s where it sounded exactly like the girl was singing "Anus in, anus in the air." (Honest, guv --when I can remember the year, I'll post a link.) God knows whether it was deliberate, but it probably got a pass for being in Icelandic rather than English. So how about Turkey's song? It does sound similar to his other song that mutley posted the video of. I love it: he's kept the grooviness and great beat of "Cakkidi", but made it much poppier and more immediate --which is essential for Eurovision. IMO, it's the best song so far, but it probably won't win: the "Shake it up" bits are too similar to the Greek song; and he really needs to work on his dancing and find a new stylist before the final --he looks like a shonky nightclub promoter or something in the gold jacket and Wham! t-shirt. Of course, the running order'll have a huge effect on a song's chances, but so far The Ark are the ones to beat. The song's cheesy (sounds like a sitcom theme) but immediately appealing, and the singer carries it off really well --like Michael Hutchence impersonating Ziggy Stardust. I like Germany a lot as well, but poor Portugal! Their song's not only as dated, bland and forgettable as usual, it's almost identical to Norway's. Has anyone seen Ukraine yet ? I don't know what's wrong with me, but it's strangely appealing...

God, that's hilarious! The hat should have its own song.

I have never heard a dying cat in person, but I imagine that the backing singers in the second half sound like dying cats. So the music video for the Maltese song is out and is it just me, or is it kind of fae (except for the part where she's in the mud)?

God, you're right: it reminds me of the pretend music videos in "Beanwhatever's Wail" or those crappy History Channel things about Kathryn Howard . Rose would love this --the corseted and slightly pudgy singer even looks a bit like her (cow eyes and all), and I think Tristan has that robe. Forget Ukraine --this is my favourite novelty entry ;D . LMAO. If only a _feminitwit_ mole would post the link...

From last week's preselection show, Germany's entry Roger Cicero. I really like his voice and he's so likeable but I still say that singing in German will not exactly bring in that many points. Though, I'm guessing that he will sing a few lines in English at the ESC.

And now...let the drama begin, here's the order of appearance for the Eurovision final:Ugh, Germany got to choose their number and they picked 16! Not good.

Heh, at least you got straight in. My country still has to qualify, so there will be loads of agonizing and anxiety attacks from the real fans, before the real competition has even started!

Where are you from? At least it's not Spain: they've drawn the "cursed" second slot, the only position that's never produced a winner. Shame --their song's one of the best. Germany's choice is weird --maybe they thought choosing a similar position to last year's winner might help? Yay for Turkey and Ukraine! Incidentally, does anyone read the comments under the YouTube postings of the entries? Some come close to the rabid Britney defenders in sheer stupidity (and hilarity) --even making allowances for ESL, is this guy Borat?:

I live in Germany's teeny tiny neighbor, the Netherlands. And the last few years we've simply sucked. But of course, every year we go through the same ritual of hope, despair and snark when we try yet again. Though that is part of the fun as well, since the next day all the media will be bitching and moaning about the contest. Heee!
