My question could probably go in the Lit forum but since it's about this show, I thought I'd ask it here. Can anyone suggest some good, in-depth books to read about this whole saga? As I've been reading everyone's comments here and watching the show, I've realized I would really like to learn the true history. Thanks! David Starkey's is the one to get. It's completely up to date on the scholarship, and the introduction spells out where he disagrees with previous historians. Speaking of Starkey, if you want a more accurate show about Henry VIII, Starkey's Henry VIII: The Mind of a Tyrant is currently running on the BBC. It will very likely turn up in the US on PBS in the future, but I've been downloading them from a torrent site.

Was there a specific title you'd recommend or are all of his books worth the read?

I'm thinking of 'Six Wives.' But I should point out it's a massive book - you might want to check and see if you want that much detail.

Quick question, I only watched S1 of this and just found out it was greenlit for S4. Is it worthwhile to buy the DVD set (extras, etc)?

To me the extras are lacking (though it was cool to watch Natalie Dormer's reaction when she visited Anne Boleyn's final resting place). S2's extras are basically two featurettes that deal with the show (Tower of London and descendants of Henry VIII). The rest is "OMG! WATCH OUR OTHER SHOWS!" stuff. Still I do kinda see it worth buying if you enjoy the show. Then again, I'm the type that on a whim may decide to rewatch a show that I really liked. If you're not that type then I say rent S2 instead.
I only recently got into this show and recently finished. But there is something that is bugging me. Who is the mother of Charles's son? Did I miss something? S1 he's married to Margaret and there is nothing to indicate he has kids. In S2 he's telling Henry he's married Catherine and part of the reason why is because his young son needs a mother. The kid just came out of nowhere!

Just watched the S3 premiere the other night. Interesting that they've switched actresses for Jane Seymour. A definite improvement as I thought the other actress looked and acted like a Barbie. Is the depiction of her as a Catholic true to history?
Poor Mary. And poor Elizabeth. The little bit about her outgrowing her clothes and him refusing to buy her more was really sad. He is such a massive prick.

My major complaint about this season? Was Henry Cavill EVER naked? This show isn't good enough to survive without naked Henry Cavill.

My biggest issue was that the actors look atrociously out of place considering their characters. By the end of season three, Henry VIII and Charles Brandon are supposed to be in their forties (which for the time was getting up there), and Henry should be fat and gross at this point. They've been trying to play up the ulcer thing, but it isn't working at all. You can't make a youthful thirty year old look like an obese, prematurely aged 45 year old. It's just not going to happen.
I can't forget how during this past season Cavill's character makes this comment of how their (meaning Henry's and his) youth is gone, and no one can return it to them, and woe is they and so on and so forth. To hear Cavill say something like that is ridiculous.
Also, Catherine Howard has been around for about five minutes and she's already driving me nuts. We get it producers; she's a ditz. She doesn't need to girlishly giggle every ten seconds.

The only upside of this season was the fact that he got a bigger role than in the second season. But that was it, he didn't get to play a philanderer, no, he had to be all serious and stuff. And keep his clothes on. Such a waste.
