Maybe she and her mom are polyamorists? These are people who feel loving more than one is as natural as monogamy is for other people. It is sometimes reffered to as "open relationships" but with commitment. They don't "swing."
If she in her heart is a "poly" as they call themselves, she will have trouble remaining in the marriage if that is what their rules are.

Ah, more words of wisdom from the The Kate Hudson Book of Sexist Relationship Bullshit. So, what's the word on Skeleton Key? Small, medium, or large pile of shit?

"Yes honey, don't tell me if you cheat, even if you bring home the clap, I just don't want to know!"
Idiot.

Translation: "I know my husband has/is cheating on me and I'm trying to save face by saying I don't care, especially after I made that stupid comment about us having a no adultry pact."
Seriously, that is a really realy really dumb thing to say. Who the hell thinks like that. Sure, it's okay if my husband goes out and bangs everything that moves, I just don't want to know. Like Guinastasia said, there are like a bajillion STD's that he could get and pass onto her because she's so ignorant.

Tax Breaks? And all the other stuff people get just for being married. Spousal benefits, etc etc etc.

Not only does she look a lot like her mother but she's definitely taken to Goldie's values as well. Does anyone else remember the time when Goldie guested on "The View" and the old lady doctor who hosts "The Sunday Night Sex Show" got into an argument about males and cheating? Basically, Goldie thinks it's natural, something about the frontal cortex of the brain blahblah and the old doctor was just like NO. It was quite interesting to watch.

For some reason, Kate and her mother have always bugged me. I never cared for either as an actress and their personal styles have always been too hippie chick for my taste. But reading these enormously ignorant quotes from them about gender roles and the male proclivity to cheat and I've gone from not caring much about them to outright loathing. Where the hell do they get these antiquated ideas?

They sound like women who are desperate to justify their cheating spouses' behaviour.

What was the point of their pact, then? Kate is totally contradicting her previous statement. Either she's willing to put up with a cheating husband, or not! Her only redeeming feature in this is that at least she doesn't come off as an expert, know it all (like, say, Gwyneth).

Oh, I don't know, stargirl, she seems to be trying to make some general statements which she's not really qualified to make. I think there is some insecurity going on: after she had her baby, she lost her "baby weight" (not all that much, as I recall) really fast to help her hang on to hubs. And she says she will not "disrespect" her hubs by cheating on him, but when HE does it to HER, somehow it's NOT disrespecting?? Double standard indeed! Feminism ain't what it used to be, eh?
