So I watched the pilot this morning and felt very much the same way that I did after seeing the job the same producers did in reimagining BSG. I really, really recommend catching it tonight. I like Michelle Ryan's flat nonaccent and slightly-chunky underchin. The music seems to evolve out of the ambient sounds in each scene. It's dark and violent and all kinds of kick-ass cool, even though it's way-Vancouvery. {/ducking}
The "I can't feel my legs... what's happening to me?" scene had my pulse through the roof.
"And she's smart... I got a hold of an old IQ test." "How'd she do?" "Better than you... sir."

Well, there are BSG people involved, so I'd hoped that it was good and that NBC didn't screw with it too much. Can't wait!!!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did (and you'll giggle and point at one cameo in particular). I wish I could remember where the "hero" music is from, during the big rooftop fight near the end (although it may be replaced from the screener copy that's out there in circulation right now). The show treads very close to pandering to a crowd-pleasing, Girl Power aesthetic -- and actually tiptoes over the line at one cutesy moment -- but it's hard-hitting and emotional and exactly the way a series opener should be: a lot of exposition and set-up and many hints at dark secrets and intrigue yet to be revealed and explored.

I'm a bit grumble-y because the casting semi-spoiled me for the BSG eps I saved on the computer, but...
The Slate review has me fully-worked up now, calling Katee "the most thrilling villain network TV has seen in some time." Since Sci-Fi is making me wait until NEXT YEAR, I'll have to make do. Also, one scene they described had massive LesYay undertones. Hot.

I thought that Katee was a guest star and not a permanent member of the cast.
I watched all of the previews on the NBC site and was hooked from those.

I'm already hating the main character just from the previews - I desperately want Katee to kick her arse! But I'll be watching for her and the other BSG folks that are supposed to pop up.

It was weird seeing Ann Veal trying to be punk...she was pretty convincing as a deaf girl in that clip, though, so props to her. I heard they recast the sister. I will have to tune in to the premiere ep and check it out and see what else they tweaked since I saw the pilot.

I was ready for the annoying deaf sister that was the only part that I didn't like from the preview clips. Now it's just an obnoxious hacker girl. They had to reshoot a bunch of shots. ETA: In the preview they also didn't show that she was preggers or that Katee Sackoff was driving the truck that creamed them. Her bionic arms and legs look totally different, too. OMG, CHIEFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!! It's a BSG reunion.

Eh, I only lasted 20 minutes before we turned it to "The War".
Love Katee, though.

I know the cameo now and YAY. I recognized some Evanescence music but I'll have to watch it again to see if I hear anything else that I know.
