Am I the only one watching this weird-ass show?
I'm a huge Deadwood fan, so I feel like I have to watch it since it's David Milch, as well as about half of Deadwood's cast. I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but the first two are kind of like Twin Peaks, but they make less sense.
That being said, the dialogue is great, and it has a really cool atmosphere, even though I have no idea what it's about.
And Al Bundy's on it! And Dylan McKay! And Jack McCall/Francis Wolcott! Therefore, I must watch. Anyone else?

I'm watching it, too. I am resisting enjoying it because I still can't get over HBO yanking Carnivale before its time and I have a terrible fear they'll do the same with this show and I'll never get what the hell was supposed to be going on.
That (irrational) fear aside, I also think the dialogue is terrific and Al Bundy is GREAT on it. Rebecca DeMornay looks great!

From what I hear, Milch is assuming that it's only going to be 10 episodes, and writing somewhat accordingly. I would be shocked if it lasts more than a season, but I'd guess it'll get the full 10.

I haven't figured this one out yet; someone please tell me when something earth-shattering happens.
p.s. I've been living in denial about Carnivale for months. I guess at some point I've got to admit it's never coming back.

Hmmm... I'm not digging it. To be fair, though, I only watched the first episode up to the part where he pours water on himself and starts to float above the ground. That was kinda enough for me.
But you guys are liking it?
Oh, no, wait, I think I watched more. That was kind of a WTF moment that stood out to me, though.

That's actually good to know. Now I can relax while I watch the next episode! Right with ya. I periodically Google the title in hopes of finding out HBO came to its senses deciding to green light a two-hour conclusion. Keep the faith! [/sad inability to let go] RamonaQ—try and watch the second episode. I wasn't too sold after watching the first one either.

I'm enjoying it so far. It's good to know that there will be some kind of limited story arc for the 10 episodes. I was afraid it would just disappear with no resolution. After the first two episodes, some people at TWoP were complaining that it was slow and nothing ever happened. I figured they must have never watched Carnivale (which I adored).

RamonaQ, I'm with you. I couldn't even watch the whole first episode. I'll take the advice here to try again and include the second episode this time (bless you, On Demand), but so far, meh.

We watched the first episode last night and -- with great embarrassment I admit this -- we never watched Deadwood but felt we should get some Milch in to atone for that sin. I really enjoyed it. I don't mind if a show goes nowhere on the surface but pokes around subliminally in my psyche and this one certainly did. Also, it's always a joy to see good actors savour a feast of juicy, meaty writing.
And the closing scene -- of surfing, natch -- was both exhilarating and existentially mystifying.
I see that my "acquisition" of the next two episodes has completed, so I guess I know what I'll be doing tonight.

I watched part of episode one on demand last night.
I didn't get it, at all.
And I got Carnivale and I loved Deadwood.
All I kept thinking was, "this shit is on HBO and Deadwood's gone?"
