We Netflixed The Departed and really enjoyed it. Scorsese definitely deserves an Oscar and Leo was incredibly good, and I don't even like him. He should have been nominated for TD.

I also found him incredibly sexy in TD. And that was some of his best acting ever IMHO. Haven't seen BD yet but I'll be rooting for him anyway come Oscar night. He won't win and that's ok, he'll have lots more chances. Oh, and they need to get Kate and Leo together as presenters! Kate is def. going to present this year, now if they'd only pair her with Leo...yes, it's the Titanic fangirl in me that's speaking!

They were both at the Oscars two years ago and weren't presenters together, so you would hope someone would get on the ball this time. It's been reported (at the IMDb and other slightly more reliable places) that Martin Scorsese was originally going to go with Hilary Swank or Kate Winslet for Madolyn in The Departed. I liked Vera Farmiga in the role, but we could have had Kate and Leo reunited on-screen. So close!

I liked him better in Blood Diamond than in The Departed, but maybe that's because I thought Blood Diamond was great and The Departed sort of meh. But either way, any nom for Leo is deserved, and of course a win is long overdue!

He looks so much like my little brother it's a kind of freaky. This is why I could never find him hot when all the girls in my class were squeeing over him in R+J. But then, it's also why I couldn't hate him when the Titanic backlash started. I liked him in Catch Me If You Can, anyway. I think he has charisma. Still it was a little weird to sit through trailers of Blood Diamond and think "Hey, what's my little brother doing up ther-----no, wait, that's Leo DiCaprio.'

Something about him rubs me the wrong way. He just doesn't do it for me either as a person or as an actor.

flamethrower, me too. I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with his acting; he's been great in several things - but I can't separate him from his characters, and I don't think it has to do with his press coverage or fame - I think he's just unique and different enough from other actors that the attention on him is there; warranted or not.
And he seems too smarmy and high on himself - just a feeling I get from his interviews, etc... I've got nothing to back it up - just one of those "I hate him for absolutely no reason" type of things.

I used to get that vibe about him as well, especially during the Romeo & Juliet and Pussy Posse eras. But I think as he's gotten older, he's matured and is more responsible and thoughtful about his actions. And his resume and filmography is really impressive for someone so young. Working with Spielberg, Cameron, and Scorcese (thrice!) is really something to be proud of. And there isn't a fluffy, stupid rom-com at all!

Just watched The Departed, and wow! He was totally fantastic - I could actually see his character breaking down as the movie progressed. And he was totally bangable (IMHO) for the first time since Romeo and Juliet.
The more I think about him the more I like that he's not a famwhore, just an actor who turns in consistently good performances. Wow, I think I'm on my way to becoming a fangirl, albeit almost a decade too late.
